Behavior Specialist
Works under the supervision of the appropriate Behavior Specialist Shift Manager, and is responsible for the daily care and supervision of, and situational counseling and behavioral management for, emotional and behavior disturbed children. Behavior Specialist staff are required to be awake during all shifts.
REQUIREMENTS
Responsible for daily care of children, so that children can learn to care for themselves, practice good hygiene, and are clean and appropriately dressed. Provide daily supervision for children, so that children are safe and available to participate in all treatment/ school/activity/play opportunities offered. Know and work according to each child’s treatment plan, so that children work toward and achieve treatment goals. Responsible for behavior management of children, so that children develop an appropriate level of self-discipline, and learn social and problem solving skills. Responsible for safety in the dorm, inside and outside the agency, while transporting, and on outings, so that children are safe from harm at all times. Provide situational counseling, so that children learn to make appropriate decisions. Talk and play with and read to the children, so that they can develop communication, learning, and social skills. Responsible for crisis intervention so that children losing control are de-escalated without restraint, and only restrained when the child is a danger to him/her self or others. Administer medications only after med. certification training and only as prescribed, so that med. administration is safely done in a timely and accurate manner and med. errors are minimized. Responsible for the condition of the dorm, so that licensing requirements are met, inspections are passed, the dorm and contents are clean and in good condition, and cleaning products/equipment are kept from children’s reach. Cooperate in working overtime when necessary due to the absence of other behavior specialist staff, so that required staffing levels are maintained and licensing standards are met. Complete other job duties as assigned.
High School diploma required, bachelors preferred. Must have two years of work experience with special needs population or two years college (60 credit hours) and one year experience working with special needs population. Must be 21 years of age, have a valid drivers license with a good driving record.
