Assistant Director of Residential Life & Housing
A full time, live-in professional staff position responsible for the student and community development of housing students through programming, staff training, supervision, crisis management, facility management and student behavior. The Assistant Director will also assist the Dean of Student Affairs in the overall operations of the student housing program and providing quality housing for students.

• Collaborate with RLC to implement a year round training program for Resident Assistant staff. Responsible for the hiring, selection, overall supervision and training of Resident Assistant staff.
• Supervise, train and evaluate Residence Life Coordinator on key housing functions including maintenance, security, room assignments, check-in/check-out, open house events/tours, student conduct policy/discipline, roommate mediation, counseling, documentation, RA selection, training and supervision, etc.
• Ensure the development, implementation, promotion, and assessment of student development programs to increase student satisfaction and persistence.
• Assure that safe, clean and well-maintained housing services are provided to students. Determine student satisfaction levels with student housing accommodations, amenities, etc. Develop strategies to assess and improve student satisfaction in housing. To include: regularly scheduled resident meetings, surveys, and face to face time with residents.
• Provide coverage for the housing facility on weekdays and on designated weekends; respond to crises and or other student problems. Interface with the Residence Life Coordinator to ensure appropriate communication and follow up occurs regarding student issues.
• Coordinate and attend Open House events. To include: information table, coordination with RLC of building tours, visual presentation, and building events.
• Oversee preparations for new student Housing Orientation; condition of facility, weekend programs, and administrative organization. Serve as main contact for parents and new students to finalize business; collection of deposits and sign leases on check-in day.
• Assume the role of fire safety director and assist in training and support of security personnel.
• Responsible for coordinating and managing discipline process in student housing. Serve as appeal person to all disciplinary sanctions set down by RLC.
• Facilitate student housing registration process for new and continuing students. Oversee room assignment process which is carried out by RLC.
• Responsible for the development and implementation of policies and procedures in student housing.
• Provide follow-up to the completion of punch-out list and cleaning of facilities prior to check-in.
• Assist DOSA in the forecast and review of Housing Department budgets on a quarterly basis, or more often as needed. Maintain a deficit-free housing budget.
• Respond to crises and or other student problems. Interface with Residence Life Coordinator to ensure appropriate communication and follow-up.
• Work with Registrar’s Office to track and monitor attendance issues as they relate to housing students.
• Assist Dean of Student Affairs in developing and managing annual sponsored housing occupancy and financial plan.
• Maintain and update all housing reports
• Create an independent housing program by developing and maintaining an off-campus housing guide, local apartment listings, referral sources, and roommate matching service.
• Develop student license agreement, rules and regulations, housing handbook, housing PR pieces. Assist DOSA in updating of the Student Handbook and Ai Catalog.
• Notify the Dean of Student Affairs informed of Housing issues and problems.
• Assist DOSA to identify and secure overflow housing space on an as needed basis.
• Assist DOSA to negotiate apartment, furniture and other vendor leases as needed.
• Maintain an awareness of current issues and developments in higher education and student personnel. Participate in local, regional and national professional organizations and conferences.

REQUIREMENTS
•Full-time live-in professional position
•2-3 years experience in Residential Life and Student Housing
•Bachelors or equivalent required; Master’s degree in Student Personnel, Education, Counseling or related field preferred.
•Able to work Monday- Friday 8am-5pm; Weekday on-call responsibilities, two on-call weekends per month
•Demonstrated interpersonal skills i.e. group dynamics, human relations, counseling, sensitivity to others
•Strong problem-resolution skills
•Excellent organizational, administrative and communication skills
•An understanding of student development issues in post-secondary education
•Maintain high professional standards and an attitude of customer service
