The Service CenterThe After Hours Formalwear Service Center located at 6711 Odessa Ave Van Nuys, CA 91406 responsible for cleaning, stocking, assembling orders and transporting orders to store and wholesale accounts. The Service Center is essentially a production and warehousing facility.The Delivery NetworkThe Delivery Network for this Service Center covers an 5 state area. Multiple remote delivery hubs are used to support the delivery area. In total this position supervises up to 45 delivery drivers, loaders and shippers.
The Position
Service Center-Transportation/Shipping ManagerPRIMARY FUNCTION:Effectively and efficiently executes the function of transporting completed orders to stores and wholesale accounts. Directs the shipping function of the Service Center towards maximizing associate productivity, minimizing overall transportation costs and maintaining positive associate relations. Initiates and maintains positive customer relations. Assumes Manager on Duty responsibility on a rotating basis.PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1.Production and Quality Planning: Develops short-term plans (30 to 90 days) for the efficient use of materials, equipment and associates. Works regularly with Service Center management and store management to establish plans for scheduled deliveries of orders. Provides Service Center Manager data to support the timely purchase of goods and supplies necessary for efficient operation of the department.2.Production and Quality Execution: Directs daily transportation activity and establishes delivery routes or priorities in keeping with effective operations and cost factors. Reviews and analyzes transportation, maintenance, and operational reports to evaluate and correct plan variances. Revises transportation mode and schedule, as needed, to effectively meet customer and budget plans.
3.Production and Quality Reporting: Compiles, stores and retrieves production data. Prepares reports for Service Center Manager, as needed and requested.4.Customer Relations: Initiates customer service programs within the Service Center and Service Center operating area to maintain solid customer relations. Empowers associate’s through proper training to handle customer order concerns. Works directly with Service Center and store management to resolve customer related concerns.5.Associate Relations: Provides associate training, recognition, performance reviews, payroll activity and discipline. Writes associate work schedules and directs associates in the completion of work assignments. Resolves associate concerns or reports unresolved associate concerns to the Service Center Manager. Executes Company Human Resource policy and procedure to ensure Service Center compliance with all applicable employment laws.
6.Security: Manages all Service Center security programs. Works with other Service Center management to carry out Company security objectives. Provides Service Center Manager timely updates on security related problems and security equipment or supply needs.
7.Equipment and Plant Maintenance: Schedules and executes the timely completion of regular maintenance on all delivery trucks and shipping equipment. Consults with Service Center Manager and, with approval, contracts with outside service vendors to maintain delivery trucks and other shipping equipment. Provides Service Center Manager proper and timely invoices for payment from outside service vendors.8.Inventory Control: Participates, at the Service Center Manager’s direction, in periodic and special inventories.Special Projects: Leads and/or participates in special projects as assigned by the Service Center Manager.
REPORTING/WORKING RELATIONSHIPS:Reports directly to the Service Center Manager. Maintains a close working relationship with Service Center management, stores regional staff and stores.
Directly supervises Transportation Department associates, including delivery truck drivers. Carries out supervisory responsibility in accordance with Company policy and procedure.
