As a Principal Packaging Equipment Engineer II, you will manage, via written and verbal communications and extensive travel to Global Manufacturing Facilities, equipment vendors, project integrators, multiple Global filling, packing, and related systems equipment projects from conception to successful site acceptance. You will assist Global Operation personnel and/or Global Engineering in the development of capital budgets, long-range master plans, and requests for capital. You will assist strategic planning activities by completing site surveys, and the development of cost estimates for scenarios under investigation. You will be responsible for the evaluation, leadership and facilitation of identification, evaluation, and recommendation for global packaging technologies, including the documentation of the technical rationale for the new technology. You will assist in Global operations on any filling, packaging, or related systems equipment or component issue. You will assist in special projects involving packaging related issues, cutting across all functional and units of the Company as required. You will assist in the development of packaging concepts and methods by active participation in early package design with Package Design and Engineering. You will evaluate and justify packaging equipment (along with plant) by vendor visits, analysis of costs, examination of capacity requirements, and examination of existing packaging methods. You will coordinate the development and approval of protocols required to ensure compliance with Company policy and governmental regulations. You will evaluate new technology by vendor visits, attending seminars, and packaging shows. You will support plant during testing and checkout of new equipment at the vendor's site by testing machinery against performance criteria. You will support equipment installation and commissioning activities by visiting plant during this phase of the project. You will issue monthly status reports on each project which summarize activity, direction, priority, and status.
This position requires a BS degree in Packaging/Mechanical or related Engineering - a Master's degree is preferred. Other BS/BA/Graduate degrees will be considered. Must have a minimum of 16 years experience in packaging with at least 7years experience in pharmaceutical packaging. Must have strong demonstrated project management skills, and strong knowledge of GMPs, SOPs, package design and equipment relationship, packaging equipment, inspection, and control devices. Must have a strong ability to handle concurrent multiple projects and achieve timely deliveries of stated project goals. Must have the ability to write reports and provide concise well-written technical documentation. Prior experience in travels to global locations is desirable. Prior experience in direct supervision within a packaging/manufacturing operation, and experience in packaging development is desirable.
