Hub Operations Supervisor
Summary
Responsible for establishing and executing the policies and procedures necessary to manage the physical manipulation of cargo within, into, and out of hubs, gateways or terminal warehouses. Ensures that the entire process meets customer and internal requirements and is completed in an organized, efficient and safe manner.
Tasks & Accountabilities
Manages and coordinates Hub/Gateway or terminal warehouse operational activities to ensure the safe, timely and cost effective processing of shipments. Implements and directs quality control program for all operational areas. Establishes, monitors, and revises policies, procedures, and service standards for hub, gateway or terminal warehouse Hub/Gateway operations. Directs and ensures compliance with established DHL corporate, hub, gateway or terminal warehouse Hub/Gateway, and airline policies, procedures and standards in accordance with government regulations. Implements and directs quality control program for all operational areas. Establishes and maintains a record keeping system for all hub, gateway or terminal warehouse Hub/Gateway operations regarding volume, damages, safety incidents, productivity, etc. Evaluates hub, gateway or terminal warehouse Hub/Gateway networks to optimize transit and cost. Communicates with some or all of the following: systems operations control, flight control, fleet aircraft maintenance, maintenance control, facilities maintenance, sort, ramp, airport police, air traffic control, fire and rescue, and US customs, and agriculture to ensure efficient and safe operation of the hub, gateway or terminal warehouse Hub/Gateway. Directs the reception and inspection of cargo. Submits cargo to test inspections for piece count, weight, dimensions, and physical condition. Oversees the loading and unloading of any of the following: trucks, trailers, ocean containers, or airline pallets. Supervises the identification and segregation of non-conforming and dangerous goods cargo and informs the applicable department according to proper processes and procedures. May be responsible for new hub, gateway or terminal warehouse hub project teams and direct vendors regarding hub construction. Supervises two or more staff; responsible for hiring, coaching, training, and developing subordinate staff. Assigns work, sets completion dates, reviews work, and manages performance in accordance with organizational policies, procedures, and performance management processes.
REQUIREMENTS
Skills & Qualifications
Complete understanding and wide application of principles, theories, and concepts in function or business area.
An advanced understanding of specific aspects of work supervised and practical application to problems and situations ordinarily encountered.
Knows and effectively uses fundamental concepts, practices, and procedures relative to quality and productivity improvements, training, budgeting and cost control, and progressive techniques in area of specialization.
Generally understands basic supervisory approaches for work direction, motivation, and disciplinary action.
Typically requires BS/BA and 2-4 years of related field, or equivalent.
Professional certification required in some areas.
