Freight Optimization Developer - Toledo

Position Description


This position is responsible for identifying freight optimization opportunities within the distribution network of 35 manufacturing locations and 30 DC’s, then developing the proper tools, reports and metrics to be used by dispatchers and logistics managers to improve customer service while driving cost out of the operation. This position will focus on optimum fleet utilization, demand point / lowest cost origin analysis, cost cutting strategies and developing user level tools. This position requires strong analytical, spreadsheet and interpersonal skills.

Essential Functions:

1. Execute freight optimization strategies that will improve responsiveness to customer’s needs and reduce cost.

2. Develop and implement tools that will increase fleet utilization of over 500 trucks and reduce empty miles.

3. Identify information technology and process requirements to meet the needs of a world class logistics operation.

4. Design, configure and implement freight optimization functions with best of breed and ERP systems.

5. Develop and implement tools for optimal routing/sourcing between distribution yards and manufacturing plants.

6. Develop and implement tools for backhaul and cross-brand trade and interplant shipments to maximize fleet utilization.

7. Develop reports and metrics that insure optimization strategies are executed.

8. Identify continuous improvement solutions of existing software tools and processes.

9. Identify and implement strategies for connecting inbound, interplant and trade shipments into continuous moves.

10. Daily communication with logistics managers, customer service managers and dispatchers to reduce freight costs and increase customer service.

11. Assist in evaluation, re-engineering and automation of logistics procedures.

12. Regularly reprioritize assigned tasks to best support the company’s needs.

13. Participate in financial budget process for freight.

14. Leverage company best practices between plants and regions.

15. Responsible for project management throughout the change management process.

16. Travel approximately 15% - 20% of the time to accomplish assigned responsibilities.

17. Perform other duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS
Qualifications:

Education:

Bachelor’s Degree in business or equivalent education and experience. Logistics major preferred.

Experience:

5+ years logistics/transportation experience required. Managerial experience preferred.

Knowledge and Skills:

Excellent verbal, written, project management and organizational skills. Strong PC skills including spreadsheets, word processing, mileage calculations and database management. Strong teamwork skills and ability to work with all levels within the organization. Strong prioritization, planning, and execution skills.
