Export Compliance Coordinator
Based in historic Old Town Alexandria, Virginia, Thales North America, Inc. (“TNA”) is the U.S. corporate headquarters for the Thales Group. TNA is recruiting an Export Compliance Coordinator to support the Group’s international trade activities in the United States. The successful candidate will report directly to TNA’s Senior Counsel for Export Compliance and join a worldwide network of more than 200 export compliance professionals who help ensure that the Group complies as effectively as possible with the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (“ITAR”), Export Administration Regulations, and other U.S. trade controls.
The successful candidate will work with the Senior Counsel for Export Compliance and the business units in the United States and abroad to:
Classify Thales products by Export Control Classification Number or U.S. Munitions List Category.
Verify that Thales business activities comply with U.S. trade controls and licensing requirements.
Prepare, submit, and track export and temporary import license applications, technical assistance agreements, manufacturing license agreements, retransfer requests, commodity classification and jurisdiction requests, and other export control documentation.
Help conduct export compliance training and on-site evaluations.
Help formulate policies, procedures and practices for business units.
Advise on day-to-day compliance, and research complex questions.
Establish and maintain an effective relationship with U.S. export regulators.
Assist with the development, implementation, and improvement of the Group’s worldwide export compliance program.
REQUIREMENTS
The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree or higher.
3 – 5 years experience in export compliance, preferably with a high technology or defense company.
Must be a “U.S. person” as defined by the ITAR.
Strong familiarity with U.S. trade controls, with particular focus on ITAR agreements, defense services, and technology transfer requirements.
Strong research and writing skills.
Good interpersonal skills, including public speaking ability.
Working knowledge of U.S. electronic license application programs, including SNAP and D-Trade.
Experience with government contracts and defense procurement advantageous, but not required.
IIEI Certified U.S. Export Compliance Officers will receive preferential consideration.
The position involves occasional international travel, especially to Europe. Competitive compensation and benefits commensurate with experience.
