Desktop Engineer/Packager
Purpose: Minneapolis TEKsystems is looking for a Sr. Level Desktop Support Engineer to for a contract position in Downtown Minneapolis. Details Below.
Software Packager:
1. Requires a four-year degree in Information Technology or related discipline or comparable education and work experience.
2. Requires a minimum of three year's experience with client/server applications including setup, maintenance, and troubleshooting. At least 1 year's experience with Microsoft Desktop Operating Systems and designing solutions on those systems. Experience with scripting, batch files, and package development/deployment. Experience with Microsoft Office product suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint). Also desirable is experience with desktop management systems
such as LANDesk management suite and Intuit's Track-It helpdesk, document management systems and full-text retrieval software.
3. Must have a strong sense of urgency and the ability to prioritize work using good judgment in varied situations.
4. Excellent interpersonal skills in dealing with both management and end users with a variety of computer skill levels.
5. Must have excellent reasoning and problem-solving abilities.
6. Must be patient and thorough in troubleshooting and general research activities.
7. Must demonstrate the ability to consult with the appropriate resources in a timely fashion.
8. Must have strong oral and written communication skills.
9. Proficiency with microcomputer software and hardware, including Windows and LAN systems.
Other skills essential for this assignment:
A. Develop proposals and concepts for improving the delivery of information services to personnel. Examples of projects include: remote computing, Intranet, network archiving and storage, security, future desktop operating system evaluation and testing, long range PC DOCS integration and administration, improving application reliability and ease of management.
B. Evaluate the impact on network architecture and performance of new application packages selected for implementation.
C. Review and recommend implementation plan for current application software releases with login scripts, group policies, and LANDesk management suite.
D. Troubleshoot and resolve problems related to Firm supported software, ensuring users are getting prompt attention to calls.
E. Provide advanced problem solving skills to issues that Computer Support Specialists are not able to resolve.
F. Deliver information seminars and classes on applications and their network integration, as requested, under the direction of the Project Support Supervisor and with the assistance of the Training group.
G. Maintain production documentation and the TrackIt knowledgebase with root cause analysis and work arounds or solutions for client server problems.
H. Create implementation plans, load software, test and train appropriate personnel.
I. Provide technical consulting to Computer Support Specialist personnel.
J. Train Computer Support Specialist personnel.
K. Answer the Help Line on an as needed basis.
L. Participate in on-call rotation.
M. Create and maintain hardware images.
