Area Manager - Ready Mix Concrete

Job Description: Responsible for all aspects of plant, shop and fleet activities for the TCS Materials Peninsula plants; Williamsburg, Newport News & Hampton,VAEnsures the safe and efficient delivery of ready mixed concrete while maintaining a high degree of product quality and customer satisfactionResponsible for administering aspects of the safety program directed toward reducing the level of accidents and injuriesResponsible for ensuring the cleanliness of plant facilities and trucksActively coordinates, troubleshoots, and resolves problems between, and within sales, dispatch, personnel, vehicle maintenance, plant maintenance, and Administration and Accounting, to ensure the efficient delivery of concrete, while maintaining a high degree of customer satisfaction and Company moralePersonally provides leadership, support, and guidance for Plant Managers, Plant Personnel, and Drivers to ensure that safe, efficient operating procedures are executed within the operationsDevelop teamwork among all Plant Managers Plant Personnel, and Drivers while upholding Company guidelines, policies and procedures, and maintaining morale across all operational levelsMonitors all processes that impact operating costs included but not limited to driver and plant costsReport all findings of fact and information to the Operations ManagerResponsible for ensuring environmental policy compliance and monthly/yearly testing of all plants and activities at the Company, and by outside contractors, and to immediately notify the Operations Manager, and to take appropriate steps to correct conditions of non-complianceQuarterly reviews Plant Managers, Plant Personnel, Shop Personnel and Drivers for quality and quantity according to established performance guidelinesProvide training for Company personnel who require initial or ongoing training or re-training.Responsible for interviewing and hiring (with HR Dept. support) of all new personnel to include drivers, plant personnel, shop personnel and plant maintenance personnel

Additional Responsibilities: Communicate maintenance priorities and methods by informing the Operations Manager, and by personally coordinating Plant Maintenance personnelEnsures that operational and housekeeping inspections are conducted and documented regularlyCoordinates the purchase of parts and equipment through the Operations Manager and PurchasingCoordinates with Dispatch Manager and Operations Manager regarding efficiency variablesConducts monthly safety meetings and safety/environmental and housekeeping inspections as requiredPersonally visits every plant within his/her area daily to maintain a proactive labor relations climateRecommends policies and procedures to maintain/enhance operating procedures to the Operations Manager
REQUIREMENTS
Qualifications: Five to ten years experience in ready mix industryMust have thorough knowledge of and be capable of operating all equipment and machinery used in ready mix concrete production and delivery

Education: Must be able to apply training, experience and/or business principles to solve problems arising in day to day business activitiesMust be able to apply principles of basic algebra, geometry and shop math to calculate variables such as inventory, moisture content and preparation of daily reportsMust be able to read and understand operations manuals, equipment instructions, safety rules, etc. and write reports and communicate with management and subordinates to solve problems, provide instruction, etcHigh School diploma or equivalent required. Four-year college degree (technical) preferredBasic computer skills required
