ASSISTANT WATER DISTRIBUTION SUPERINTENDENT

SALARY $59,259 - $88,296 annualized (effective August 14, 2006). Appointment can be made above the minimum depending upon qualifications.

EXPERIENCE Requires at least three years of professional water industry experience including two years of progressively responsible management and supervisory experience in a water utility, and a bachelor’s degree in public administration, business administration, engineering or a related field. Other combinations of experience and education that meet the minimum qualifications may be substituted.

DUTIES Assists the Water Distribution Superintendent with the overall direction, management, and supervision of the operation of the City’s water distribution system. Responsibilities include coordinating, planning, and implementing the programs and initiatives of the Water Distribution Division, applying professional management and technical knowledge to the solution of problems related to the day-to-day operations and maintenance of the distribution system and continuously evaluating business practices and organizational functionality in the interests of efficiency and improvement. Responsibility is exercised over a staff of 290 employees with a division budget of approximately $49 million. The City of Phoenix water distribution system consists of 6,500 miles of water mains, 45,000 fire hydrants, 100,000 valves and 400 remote facilities and serves approximately 385,000 active accounts. Currently there is one vacancy in the Water Services Department.

ALSO REQUIRED Positions in this classification require the use of personal or City vehicles on City business. Individuals must be physically capable of operating the vehicles safely, possess an appropriate valid Arizona driver's license, possess personal insurance coverage, and have an acceptable driving record. Must possess a Grade 4 Arizona Department of Environmental Quality (ADEQ) Operator certification within one year of the date of hire. Must be available on a 24 hour basis to respond to emergency situations.

RESIDENCE Maricopa County residency is required within 24 months after the date of hire and must be maintained.
