Gerson Lehrman Group (GLG) is searching for a is a Web Application / GUI Engineer. We enable our clients to get access to authoritative and experienced individuals on any subject in a timely manner. We maintain a rapidly growing database of over 150,000 experts across all industries (i.e. Technology, Media, Healthcare, Energy, etc.). Our business hinges on quickly and accurately matching the subject matter experts to client knowledge requests.
Gerson Lehrman Group has started a new engineering organization in Boston responsible for developing the software platform on top of which other Gerson Lehrman Group engineering teams can rapidly develop specialized applications and services that suit the needs of our clients, council members, and employees. The software platform is a collection of services that enable cross-application features such as search, product payments, and business process orchestration. Our first project is to build the industry-leading search product capable of identifying authoritative human experts and their qualifications in different fields. This is a challenging technical problem to solve, one that we believe few in our industry are tackling directly. We are expanding our team with self-motivated, creative people who thrive in an enterprise environment where they are constantly challenged. To fill this position, we are looking for an individual with a combination of strong interpersonal skills, a good eye for intuitive user interfaces, knowledge of emerging web technologies, and experience with object-oriented programming. In this position, you will rapidly prototype fully-functional web applications that demonstrate the capabilities of the services platform that we are developing. Initially, the focus is on the search platform. In addition to user-interface work, this position will be involved in a variety of non-UI programming projects in support of the team’s mission. As one of the founding members of this new team, you will play a major role in formulating the culture of this team and in defining the best practices and processes that we will follow.
Responsibilities:
Engage designers, product managers, engineering managers, and internal customers in an ongoing dialog on feature set and user-interface innovations for our internally and externally facing web applications.
Quickly construct fully-functional web applications to demonstrate the capabilities of our new web services.?
Contribute to the development of the server platform that will provide cross-application services to other engineering teams within the company.
Be a point-of-contact for engineers in our other offices that will be implementing web applications on top of the services that we are developing.
Qualifications:
BS in Computer Science or related technical degree
5+ years of relevant progressive professional experience, including experience in software and website application development
Experience developing search, ecommerce, or another web-based application faced with similarly complex information architecture challenges
Proven ability to empathize with stake-holders that possess diverse points-of-view and create solutions that address their individual concerns.
Expert web development skills (HTML, CSS, JavaScript, DHTML, XML and XSLT)
Experience with n-tier web application development using C#/.NET (candidates with J2EE experience and willingness to learn .NET will also be considered)
