Technical Writer

Blackboard Product Development designs and builds industry-leading academic computing solutions. The academic network, powered by Blackboard, is providing new opportunities for education all over the world. The writer will work on a team building documentation for the Blackboard Academic Suite. The primary responsibility of the writer will be writing and editing manuals focused on helping developers and administrators enrich the education environment through technology. Qualified candidates possess exceptional writing skills and should be comfortable producing drafts that require minimal revision and editorial oversight. Candidates should also possess a background in Java programming or enterprise-class application administration.
•Define and scope documentation requirements focused on using software to meet real-world educational goals.
•Design and prepare written and multimedia materials.
•Interact with requirements analysts, developers, and clients.
•Prepare API and developer documentation.
•Prepare technical documentation for administrators covering topics such as: performance tuning, authentication, integration, and database management.
REQUIREMENTS
•Superior writing skills. Must be able to complete large-scale documentation projects with little oversight.
•Bachelor's degree
•Experience documenting APIs or server-side administration.
•Understanding of relational databases and ability to understand Entity Relationship Diagrams.
•Knowledge of XML and Java or a background in enterprise-class application administration.
•Ability to communicate effectively with team members and balance different perspectives.
•Ability to accurately scope documentation requirements and consistently meet deadlines.

Two or more years experience building SDKs or writing server-side administration manuals is preferred.
