TECHNICAL DESIGNER

Product Development and SourcingBASIC FUNCTION:
Provides technical evaluation and expertise for both Retail and Catalog apparel merchandise in terms of design, construction and manufacturing to achieve appropriate fit, quality and style interpretation that helps ensure customer satisfaction and brand integrity.PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
Advises supplier and provides expert guidance for fit evaluation, pattern corrections and grading. Ability to manipulate pattern to achieve optimum fit.Creates apparel specifications and provide pattern specifications to reflect optimum fit, construction and styling relative to private brand strategies.Evaluates supplier's sample garments for fit and construction detail, as required.Provides expert advice to Designers, Product Managers and Sourcing regarding costs, alternate methods of garment construction, and yardage yield.Develops product packages for private label merchandise including technical sketches, construction details, preferred trim applications and graded specs.Studies and applies knowledge of the latest techniques and technological advances in equipment and manufacturing techniques, fabric textures and construction, and findings (component parts) to the garment evaluation process.Provides technical evaluation relative to size, fit and construction for competitor comparison. Evaluate Catalog returns as they apply to fit to help reduce returns.Manages garment evaluation training and garment preparation processes, as required, and provides on-going technical education (formal and informal) to colleagues.KEY RELATIONSHIPS:
Counsels with Design and Product Development in Apparel Divisions regarding ?Commercialization? of the product.Works on daily basis with apparel suppliers.Works with Quality Assurance Research & Technologies Laboratory to test and set apparel standards to ensure compliance with quality standards.Partners with Catalog Customer Service and Quality Assurance to determine a disposition on merchandise that does not meet specification.Education
College degree in merchandising or equivalent business experience preferred. Two-year course at approved fashion technical institute preferredExperience
Six years in pattern making and grading, or its equivalent.Core Competencies
Knowledgeable of apparel construction and factory workflow/manufacturing techniques/process.
Knowledgeable using Web PDM, Illustrator and Gerber Accumark System.
