SPECIFIC JOB DESCRIPTION: Enterprise Architect. The principal activities in this function of the Chief Technology Office are to support the overall Architecture and Architectural Governance. From a process perspective, the role will support the Architecture frameworks, methodologies and tools as well as the Architecture Governance framework necessary for creating/maintaining the Architecture. Position requires both business and technical knowledge of large enterprise operations. The successful candidate must have knowledge of IT infrastructure including networking (client/server, P2P, wireless, ?), applications (J2EE, .NET, Web services, AJAX, ?), security (I&AM, PKI, ?), systems management (Managed Desktop Infrastructure, SMS, ?) and strategic planning. From a content perspective, the role will determine and define the appropriate components of the Architecture, detailing specifics in domains such as Applications/Services, Data/Information, Infrastructure/Platforms, Operations/Security and Development. The role will also be responsible for collaborating with the Council of IT Architects in developing roadmaps to drive the organization in an efficient and effective manner towards improved use of IT and alignment with the Clinger-Cohen Act. The Architect must be able to balance the need for visionary thinking and strong central governance of standards with the pragmatic delivery needs of programs. The architect must be able to provide pragmatic and innovative technical guidance to multiple programs without becoming entrenched in detailed design decisions of any single program or Business Area. The individual must be a self-starter who has a yearning to continuously update their skills. In addition, the architect must possess excellent oral/written communications skills and be comfortable in selling ideas/concepts/architectures to senior business management.

STANDARD JOB DESCRIPTION: Develops and publishes corporate business automation plans using cost-effective delivery technologies in support of major corporate strategies. Performs complex software design activities integrating multiple technologies. Provides architectural guidelines for all software design activities to current and future technological environments. Maintains state-of-the-art knowledge of technologies, planning, design, and analysis methodologies. Responsible for the design and architectural guidelines for current and future software technological activities.
