Additional information can be found on our website, sig.com.Job DescriptionThe Sr. Network Engineer will provide technical and administrative support for the global enterprise network. Each engineer in the Networking Team has responsibility in four areas: Administration (managing and monitoring the network infrastructure, providing second level troubleshooting support and ensuring production documentation is accurate and up to date); Engineering (proposing and implementing system enhancements including software and hardware updates that will improve performance and reliability of the network); Architecture (defining, designing and implementing network solutions) and Project Management (managing technical projects within the scope of the Networking Team).Specific responsibilities include supporting the enterprise global network and third party vendor connections, focusing on Cisco switching/routing and troubleshooting Layer 1, 2 & 3 problems. The engineer will support the existing infrastructure and assist in the design and deployment of network solutions in support of both business and technical initiatives. By maintaining knowledge of industry trends and best practices, the engineer will contribute to developing the future network architecture. The engineer will also utilize network monitoring and management tools to evaluate the status of the environment daily and focus on capacity planning and analysis of the network.In this role, the Sr. Network Engineer will work closely with members of this team and will also work collaboratively with other technical teams; the Network Engineer will make appropriate infrastructure recommendations for various business and technical projects regarding the SIG enterprise and external services and will suggest enhancements to current standards and propose new solutions.The engineer will also be responsible for providing documentation and network diagrams on a timely basis. Other responsibilities include coordinating purchase orders, planning, upgrading, monitoring, testing and servicing; and will monitor and complete requests for network services. All members of the Network Team also participate in early morning and off hour support schedules.
REQUIREMENTS
A minimum of 7+ years of Technology experience with a minimum of 5+ years of related network support experience in a large production networkMust have extensive troubleshooting skills for OSI layer one, two and three problemsTroubleshooting - Multiple OS experience (Linux, Solaris, Microsoft), Cisco Hardware, Firmware/Software, Wide-Area, Metro and Local Area Networks, Internet, Cisco switch/router configuration, TCP/IPROUTING experience using RIP, EIGRP, BGP, ISISLAN- fiber and copper wiring standards, Ethernet, spanning-tree, 802.1 standards and wireless technologiesMAN/WAN- familiar with signaling, framing and protocol standards for circuits including 56k, ISDN, T1, T3, Frame Relay, ATM, MPLS, PPP, HDLCExperience with load balancing, QoS, IP Multicast, VoIP solutionsNetwork Analyzers - OSI model, packet decodes, common protocols, understand and troubleshoot production problems; familiarity with Sniffer and/or Ethereal utilities.Familiar with Network Management tools, SNMP, NetFlowExperience using VisioCollege degree preferred or equivalent experienceSalary/BenefitsAt SIG, our employees are our most valued assets.
