Senior Packaging Engineer

REPORTS TO:
Director of Nutritional Projects

POSITION SUMMARY:
Responsible for development of packaging material components of filling and dispensing concepts. Developmental phases include conceptualization through commercialization.

The Packaging Engineering function will encompass a wide area of packaging materials and finished package functionality development; including blow molded bottles, injection molded parts, closures, and potentially a variety of thermoplastic and elastomeric material components. Knowledge of packaging machinery and a strong mechanical aptitude is a plus, strong project management skills are required. Responsibilities include development of and prototyping of new packaging concepts, while insuring the manufacturing viability; development of form and functional specifications, as well as designing and conducting validation studies and testing. Development will be a combination of in-house and use of external resources as needed, with a strong emphasis on key external developmental partners. This position is very much a team environment, but the ability to work independently as a self starter is needed.

REQUIREMENTS
JOB QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
•Experience in Package Development and project management through commercialization
•Must bring a proven aptitude for technical problem solving ability
•Experience in injection molding, blow molding and rigid polymeric packaging materials a strong plus
•Good knowledge of packaging materials desirable
•Familiarity with Packaging test methods.
•Ability to work well with inputs from Program Management, team members and external suppliers.
•Ability to interface and leverage external suppliers successfully to achieve needed goals.
•Set up and execution of packaging evaluation and test plans

Training & Experience:
•Preferably 8+ years in a Packaging Engineering / Development environment.
•Minimum Bachelors Degree in Engineering, Packaging or related field.
•Knowledge of aseptic packaging and filling systems is a plus.
•Good knowledge of packaging materials
•Excellent Problem solving ability. Creativity and an ability to find a simple solution to complex problems
•Good verbal and written communication skills, good interpersonal skills
