Senior Mechanical Engineer

SUMMARY: Assists with the design and testing of mechanical or electro-mechanical instruments by performing the following duties.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Assure a smooth, timely release and transition of new products being released into the mainstream product line by checking for accurate bills of material and costing. Review all fabrication drawings for manufacturability before release.

Write routings on new parts in order to assist engineers with cost targets and assure that all manufacturing processes are in the system.

Become involved in the design and review process as early as possible.

Develop some standardization and commonality of purchased parts and raw materials, with the goal of reducing the number of new components through the use of parts that we already have in stock.

Provide a resource as a packing engineer with the goal of reducing product costs, i.e. simplifying construction, reducing assembly time.

Assist vendors with questions resulting from unclear drawings.

Assist the Purchasing Department in dealing with obsolete parts.

Check for errors on routings for production parts.

Assist the NC Programming Department regarding revisions to reduce costs and improve manufacturing processes on production parts.

Assist the Machine Shop with questions regarding dimensions, tolerances and fabrication processes.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor's degree (B.S.) in Mechanical Engineering from four-year college or university and 3-5 years' experience and/or training in the mechanical aspects of process analytical instruments; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES:

Demonstrated ability in managing multiple projects and tasks; ability to effectively work with multiple departments, i.e., Sales/Marketing, Production, Purchasing, Machine Shop. Proficient in AutoCAD; knowledge of Solidworks is a plus. Knowledge of manual and NC machine shop processes helpful. Design experience with systems associated with pressure vessels, static seal design, general weldment structures and sheet metal forming would be helpful.Autocad, Solidworks
