Senior Mechanical Design Engineer (Solidworks)

SUMMARY Researches, develops, designs and tests mechanical or electromechanical instruments by performing the following duties.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

MAJOR TASKS
Designs mechanical or electromechanical components for industrial purposes based on specifications required by customer and/or Marketing/Sales.

Prepares engineering documents including detailed drawings, schematics, test procedures, parts specifications, manuals and bill of materials.

Uses computer-aided design software and equipment to perform engineering tasks.

Manages prototype and project costs.

Conducts instrument and/or component experimental testing programs.

Compiles, documents and analyzes test data to establish performance standards for newly-designed instruments.

Troubleshoots instrumentation for product improvement.

SUPPORT
Confers with Marketing/Sales personnel to clarify or resolve problems and develop design.

Coordinates the manufacturing or building of prototype instruments.

Works with Manufacturing on product improvements through manufacturing techniques or procedures.

OTHER
Maintains own work in professional manner with adherence to internal and external standards.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's degree (B.S.) in Mechanical Engineering from four-year college or university and 6-10 years' experience and/or training in the mechanical design of process analytical instruments; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES
Demonstrated ability in managing multiple projects and tasks; ability to effectively work with multiple departments, i.e., Sales/Marketing, Production, Purchasing, Machine Shop. Proficient in AutoCAD; knowledge of Solidworks is a plus. Knowledge of manual and NC machine shop processes helpful. Design experience with systems associated with pressure vessels, static seal design, general weldment structures and sheet metal forming would be helpful.solidworks
