Power Supply Engineer
Proton Energy Systems, Inc. designs, develops, and manufactures Proton Exchange Membrane, or PEM, electrochemical products that it employs in hydrogen generating devices and in regenerative fuel cell systems that function as power generating and energy storage devices. Proton's HOGEN® hydrogen generators produce hydrogen from electricity and water in a clean and efficient process using its proprietary PEM technology.
Located in a new 100,000 square foot manufacturing facility in Wallingford, CT, we are in South Central Connecticut, with easy access to both New York City and Boston. Connecticut’s shoreline and beaches are close by and yet skiing in Northern New England is just several hours away. This region of Southern New England offers something for every lifestyle.
In this position you will be responsible for managing creative and challenging development and applied R&D projects to a schedule and a budget. You will be working with a team developing technology in the rapidly expanding hydrogen and renewable energy market. These new technologies include hydrogen generation by water electrolysis, regenerative fuel cells, wind power, solar cells, and power management.
Responsibilities include: Project planning Project engineering Resource coordination Power converter design System design and modeling Specifying components and systems Progress reporting R&D report generation Documentation review REQUIREMENTS
BSEE with expertise with Power Electronics and Power Engineering Minimum of 5 years of experience designing industrial power conversion systems Basic knowledge of power quality issues Good engineering communications and documentation skills The ability to work in a team environment on a number of projects at once The ability to learn new concepts quickly
Preferred Qualifications:
Design and/or testing of power converters in the 5kw to 250kw power range
Switching power supply printed circuit board design
Magnetics procurement and test experience
Thermal testing experience
Real time controls, embedded DSP programming of power converters.
Application of switch gear
Experience with: Autocad, Orcad, Visual Basic, MS Excel or similar
Use of protective relays
Knowledge and experience with CAN, RS232, RS485
Power quality testing
EMI testing and/or design
UL, CSA, CE compliance experience
