Power Plant Engineer

•3-10 years experience in power plant design and/or plant operations and maintenance is required.
Responsibilities include supporting general operations and maintenance of existing power plants, assisting with projects and resolving a variety of maintenance and operational issues PLUS providing support for new power plant construction.
Summary of Job Duties and Responsibilities
The Power Plant Engineer oversees all engineer-related functions and the general operations in the power plant environment, which include, but are not limited to the following:
1) Develop equipment specifications, contractual agreements, and perform project management activities such as outage planning and execution. In addition, you will provide engineering support for operations and maintenance by formulating and implementing technical solutions for improved plant performance. Responsible for directing and developing personnel, coordinating maintenance contracts and providing support for safety and environmental programs as needed.
2) Typically works on cross-functional teams to include engineering services, maintenance services and operations personnel. Maintains close contact with these groups to evaluate plant equipment performance, recommend design/specification improvements, trend project performance and stay current with existing and developing technologies.
3) Analyzes and evaluates operations, maintenance and performance levels in the plant environment. Make recommendations to improve employee health and safety to support a zero accident/incident rate goal.
4) Interacts with consultants, vendors, contractors, and other third parties regarding operations and/or special projects and provide field input for improving their product performance, pricing, quality, delivery, etc.
5) Provides general oversight to project managers and planners to assist with project planning and assure the safe and efficient plant production and operations
6) Adhere to and support all safety and environmental rules, policies, and procedures
8) Respond to operating and project needs, provide lead role for plant and equipment performance evaluation; optimizing resource use and maximize reliable power generation and revenue from the region
9) Identify and incorporate new ideas and technologies for project development. Recommend economically viable projects. Initiate, implement and complete project work as assigned or otherwise.Job Requirements
REQUIRED Job Qualifications:
•3-10 years experience in power plant design and/or plant operations and maintenance
•Bachelor's Degree in Engineering from an accredited university engineering program (Mechanical, Electrical or Controls)
•Effective written and oral communication skills are required to communicate clearly and precisely with employees at all levels. This includes interpreting accounting reports, policies and procedures, regulations and business plans and the ability to write routine reports, correspondence and project justifications.
•Effective analytical abilities to include interpreting drawings, performing production cost modeling, developing/managing a plant budget and other generation planning duties
•Effective problem solving and decision making skills to make clear and precise decisions in critical situations
•Ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks and projects
•Working knowledge of Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Visio
•Valid Texas drivers license with a safe driving record
Preferred Qualifications, but not required:
•Registered Professional Engineer (TX) desired
•Knowledge and understanding of the ERCOT deregulation process and associated protocols
•Ability to use technical skills to focus ideas onto substantial projects. Must show a willingness to learn, as well as to clearly communicate complex ideas and concepts to those with less technical background.
•Ability to evaluate safety/environmental concerns; familiarity with current EPA & TCEQ environmental regulations.
