PROJECT ENGINEER
Position Summary:
Position involves project management and mechanical design of welding products and components (e.g. welding and cutting torches, Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW) equipment). Candidate will participate in initial product conceptualization, perform mechanical design work, and manage projects across several organizational groups (i.e. product line management, engineering, manufacturing engineering, purchasing, production planning, global sourcing, etc.) in order to drive the product from concept to sales launch. Project types include: new product development, modifications and/or expansions of existing product lines, and global sourcing initiatives. Candidate will be responsible for project planning, scheduling, and integration of cross-functional groups at all stages of a project using a cross-functional stage gate approach to project control.Required Qualifications
•Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or engineering technology.
•Proficiency using personal computers and standard office applications such as:
Microsoft Office – excel, word, power point, e-mail, etc.
•Demonstrated talents in organizing and planning complex projects involving cross-functional teams, and maintaining a sense of order and control in the planning and execution of projects.
•Ability to investigate problems, identify root causes, and lead the development of solutions between project groups/team members.
•Discipline to maintain focus on moving projects forward while delegating task elements to the appropriate team members and monitoring progress.
•Strong interpersonal communication skills at all organizational levels.
•Willingness to bring problems (interpersonal and technical) to the surface and lead groups or individuals through productive conflict resolution.
•Proficiency in using CAD software (preferably Pro/E) to perform mechanical design of components to be made by casting, machining, and forging processes.
•Experience with common manufacturing processes and willingness to integrate with manufacturing personnel (i.e. mfg. engineering, quality, shop supervisors, etc.) when considering new designs or design changes.

Responsibilities
•Develop relationships with primary customers (product line managers) within the organization to understand and evaluate the purpose and viability of new product initiatives, sourcing initiatives, and other potential projects.
•Develop product concepts into detailed project plans that involve many functional areas.
•Manage meetings to integrate team members from different functional groups in order to develop full understanding among team members of the interplay between functions.
•Develop project plans, resource loaded schedules, etc. using Microsoft Project Enterprise and Microsoft Word software, and keep project information published and updated on world wide server for team members to view from various locations around the world.
•Track projects, report deviations from plans, investigate causes, update plans, etc.
•Continually look for and resolve hidden conflict with respect to project plans, resource availabillity, staff relationships, clarity of expectations, etc. and elevate problems upward in the organization when necessary.
•Perform design work on projects that have strong mechanical design components.
