The Furniture Designer plans, designs, and furnishes interior environments for commercial and industrial buildings of all sizes projects.
Position Responsibilities
As a furniture designer you will:Consult with sales representatives or customers to determine parameters of the project, which include but are not limited to architectural preferences, purpose and function of environment, budget, types of construction, equipment to be installed, and other factors, which affect planning interior environments. Conduct site inspections when necessary. Take inventory of present equipment, furnishings and other items. Obtain field dimensions when accurate plans are not available. Interprets data for the development of a design concept and layout, which is appropriate to specific areas, activities, organizational levels, and budget considerations. Render design ideas through presentation boards, binders, floor plans, isometrics, and other drawings or illustrations and/or perspectives to successfully communicate the design theme and plan to the client for approval. Estimate material requirements. Execute floor plans, furniture plans, panel plans, installation drawings, electrical and communication plans, and/or detail drawings of application. Execute all CAP functions necessary in specification, management or organization of project data. Execute color and finish schedules. Execute complete specification for furnishings, upholstery, accessories, window, wall, and floor treatment. Periodically provide project status reviews to Project Manager Director, and/or Sales. Reviews installation drawings and specifications with salesperson, Project Manager, Installation, and Corporate/Client's Project Director. Performs project needs analysis. Perform space planning and product suggestion. Creates specifications and SIF files. Manages project data. Select fabrics and finishes. Make suggestions for accessories. Review drawings and specifications with key people. Manages presentation documents and process. Communicate w/Internal and external contacts and reason for contacts include: Creative services lead - to get assignments; Sales Representatives, Sales Administrators, Project Managers, and Operations Managers - to get parameters of a design project; Vendors - to verify product application; and customers - to understand project parameters. Project orientation includes: Interview/Information gathering with customer or salesperson, product selection with/by salesperson, design scope of project needs to be developed, research and development, project assignment, timeline, and deadline discussed, furniture specification, finish selection, specification check, SIF file deliverable to administrator, and presentation implementation of deliverables. Highly expert level proficient in use of AutoCAD for space planning. Multi-project focus - attention for several projects at once. Showcase your Project Management Skills. You'll function as the primary liaison with corporate customers to provide unsurpassed, full-cycle project management, including:
? Providing a single point of contact for corporate customers for questions, answers, and project schedule updates;
? Coordination of contractors and suppliers, including movers, painters, electricians, carpet installers and other trades. Plus coordination with voice, data and IT suppliers;
? Ensuring efficient product tracking for timely shipment and delivery; and
? Overseeing installation supervision and follow-up.

Bachelor's degree in interior design (contract focused) or higher from and accredited University or College is requiredMinimum of 3 years of industry experience at a furniture dealership in a design/specification role is essentialExtensive background in contract furniture product knowledge, specification, and Auto Cad must also be part of the qualificationsAn understanding of Design Express, Cap 20/20, Auto Cad 2000i, and Microsoft products is requiredPosition requires the ability to manage moderate level of stress, multiple deadlines and the challenge of dealing with various personalities (i.e.: salespeople)Limited local travel
