Network Architect

BASIC FUNCTIONResponsible for Project Management of Infrastructure installations at new facilities and upgrades at existing facilities. This includes vendor selection; work quality supervision, inspection and sign-off; supervision of vendor adherence to design specification and project coordination within all Kohler divisions. Project work will likely include extensive travel to remote sites for quality assurance of cable installations and other project management duties. Strong Customer Service Skills are essential. This position requires extensive travel (50-60% is common).SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIESWork with Kohler Co. business units and the appropriate I.T. Systems & Business Solutions Development group to determine project scope and budget. Under the leadership of the Senior Systems Analyst (LAN/WAN Design), assist in the development of the network specifications for the site. This includes working with Facilities Engineering to determine site and equipment layout, environmental factors affecting the network infrastructure, and the construction schedule for the buildings. Prepare or assist in the preparation of all Requests for Proposals and Requests for Quotes for each project. Lead the vendor selection and negotiation process for each individual project. This includes both equipment vendors as well as cable installation vendors. Schedule and coordinate the multiple vendors required to complete the projects in accordance with each project's timeline and budget. Coordinate the necessary technical assistance from Kohler Co. I.T. Operations and Infrastructure that is required to successfully complete the project. Ensure that the appropriate equipment is ordered, delivered and installed on time. Regularly visit each project site to inspect and approve the installation of all cabling infrastructure for network projects and ensure that all project milestones are being met. Perform or assist in the installation of network equipment (routers, switches, etc.) including configuring the software and operating systems of each device. Advise on and approve any vendor or internal customer requested changes to the project specifications. Consult with the Senior Systems Analyst (LAN/WAN Design) before approving any major variances to the specification. Update the Project Management System on a biweekly basis and create and distribute any other reports to affected businesses concerning project progress. Regularly update the Business Solution Manager on the status of the project. Manage multiple projects at the same time. Attend project update meetings as required by Management.EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTSCollege degree in Information Technology or related field preferred. Knowledge of BICSI Standards along with experience on Infrastructure Installation. Strong project management skills needed. Exhibit strong leadership competencies. Model strong team building, conflict management and negotiation skills in complex situations.
