Gorbel Inc, a Rochester, NY based leading manufacturer of ergonomic and intelligent material handling equipment seeks individual with broad based experienced in mechanical design and development. Working under the direction of the Research & Development Manager this candidate will drive, as well as participate in, the cost reduction of our established material handling products.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITY

Rationalize the cost structure of our established material handling products and conceptualize, develop and implement improvements using sound mechanical engineering principles. Analyze specifications, as well as business, technology and cost requirements, and implement appropriate, approved enhancements in a timely and cost effective manner. Take steps necessary to ensure product reliability, performance and customer acceptance.

PRIMARY DUTIES

-Work with internal and external resources to understand product requirements
-Rationalize existing product designs and their associated costs
-Conceptualize, develop and implement improvements to product cost structure using sound mechanical engineering principles
-Lead and participate in cross functional team effort to successfully drive product cost reductions
-Meet or exceed established cost reduction goals
-Adhere to suitable design and documentation practices and methodologies
-Supervise functional as well as accelerated life testing to ensure product reliability and performance
-Support customers in product use and application as required
-Support vendors in quoting and fabrication of affected components, providing support as well as documentation
-Adhere to project timelines and budgets
-Provide quality assurance for output
-Participate in R&D department projects as assigned
-Participate on, as well as lead company teams as assigned

SECONDARY DUTIES

-Assist in the development of specifications for new product requests and enhancements
-Create, publish and maintain departmental procedures as assigned
-articipate in the identification and recommendation of new material handling technology solutions
-erve as a technical resource to other departments as required

SPECIFIC DUTIES

-Develop and maintain organized current and projected product cost analysis
-Support purchasing and vendors in cost analysis and change implementation
-Present and propose suitable product changes
-Develop and maintain organized supporting design calculations
-Create and maintain CAD product models and layouts in Solidworks
-Create and maintain CAD product detail drawings in AutoCAD
-Perform finite element analysis on Solidworks models using Cosmos
-Create and maintain product bills of material and routings in Syteline
-Execute engineering change notices as required

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

-4 year Mechanical Engineering degree
-5 years of professional experience minimum
-Ability to meet tight deadlines with high quality requirements
-Project and task management skills
-Strong communication skills
-Problem solving skills
-Detail oriented

Required Experience & Skills:
-5 years of professional experience minimum in mechanical engineering
-Ability to efficiently rationalize a product’s design and resulting costs
-Ability to work with cross functional teams to successfully drive product cost reductions
-Strong communication and teamwork skills. Ability to effectively interact with customers and fellow employees at all levels
-Developing and maintaining organized supporting product design calculations
-Creating and maintaining CAD product models, layouts and detail drawings
-Creating and maintaining product bills of material and routings in an Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system
-Ability to work with customers, both internal and external, and turn their requirements into working products and then to support them throughout the product life cycle
-Able to work as part of a team on larger, long term projects and individually on smaller, short term projects
-Able to manage multiple, simultaneous projects with short timelines.
-Strong time and project management skills. Ability to commit to and maintain project schedules, putting forth the effort necessary to satisfy the project timeline requirements
-Detail oriented and quality focused
-Proficient in Geometric Tolerancing and Dimensioning
-Strong computer skills
-Bachelors Degree in Mechanical Engineering
