Mechanical Design Engineer - Pressure Equipment

This position is responsible for providing Mechanical Engineering support for Pressure Equipment (Pressure Vessels, Heat Exchangers, Tanks, Piping Systems, etc.) involving mechanical integrity assessments, maintenance, re-rates, and new project design activities. This includes fitness for service evaluations, re-rating for different design conditions, calculations, project scope development, estimating, detailed design, project execution, and coordination of capital and expense projects. Additionally, this position provides expertise, knowledge, and interpretations in Pressure Vessel and Piping Codes including ASME Section VIII Division I, ASME B31.1, ASME B31.3, ASME 31G, ANSI/NB-23, API 570, API 510, API653, and other applicable Codes and Standards.

Provide expertise, knowledge, and interpretations in Pressure Vessel and Piping Codes including ASME Section VIII Division I, ASME B31.1, ASME B31.3, ASME 31G, ANSI/NB-23, API 570, API 510, API653, and other applicable Codes and Standards.
Mechanical Integrity and Maintenance Support
Provide Mechanical Engineering calculations including:
Minimum wall thickness, Remaining Life, and Fitness-for-Service. Rerate pressure equipment for different design conditions. Hydrostatic test pressures.Maximum allowable working pressures.
Develop and implement repair scopes and procedures for pressure equipment.
Participate in root cause failure analysis regarding pressure equipment failures.
Define inspection requirements for existing pressure equipment.
Provide input and guidance for piping stress analysis.
Capital Support
Lead piping and mechanical efforts on small and large capital projects. Provide technical direction for engineers/pipe designers (in-house and/or third party engineering firm) during the engineering phase of the projects.
Insure quality design, cost compliance, and schedule activities are met as related to Mechanical and Piping Engineering.
Insure effective coordination of Mechanical & Piping documents and design issues with project managers and other engineering disciplines.
Develop Mechanical Equipment technical specifications and coordinate procurement.
Develop project-specific Pipe-Service Indices and piping specifications.
Develop Specialty Items specifications and manage procurement.
Provide ASME expertise to BASF Group Engineering (GI) on technology transfer projects.
Ensure effective communication and action item resolution between GI, BASF Corporation (BC), and outside engineering contractors.
Assist projects in obtaining Technical Standards Deviation Approval.
Identify, evaluate, and promote cost-savings opportunities regarding mechanical and piping design, and construction opportunities.
Answer requests-for-information (RFI) as follows:From fabrication shops during pipe fabrication.From Construction during plant erection.From Operations during plant start-up.
REQUIREMENTS
This position requires a Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering.
7 or greater years experience in Pressure Vessels, Heat Exchangers, Storage Tanks, and Piping Systems design, fabrication, construction, maintenance, evaluations, and repairs.
Detailed working knowledge of ASME and API Codes for Pressure Vessels, Heat Exchangers, Storage Tanks, and Piping Systems including ASME Section VIII Division I, ASME B31.1, ASME B31.3, ASME 31G, ANSI/NB-23, API 510, API 570, API653, and other applicable Codes and Standards.
Experience with Pressure Equipment mechanical integrity assessments, fitness-for-service evaluations, re-rates, maintenance, and repair procedures.
