SUMMARY:
The City of New York/Department of Information Technology and Telecommunications (DoITT) is currently looking for a Graphic Designer/ Jr. Information Architect. DoITT acts as the service agency for the City of New York, overseeing the design and build of website and application projects for all 80+ City agencies, including the Office of the Mayor.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong visual design skills (via an online portfolio) with an aptitude for or willingness to be trained in Information Architecture. He/she will also have 3-4 years experience designing for information-heavy and technology-driven projects.

JOB DESCRIPTION:
(New York City Residency required within 90 days of appointment)

The Graphic Designer/Jr. IA works with the content strategy & operations project teams who build and extend web-enabled applications that enhance the City’s ability to provide services, foster economic development, and reduce operating costs across all public facing channels: NYC.gov, 3-1-1 Call Center, NYC CityShare, and NYC TV. The Graphic Designer/Jr.IA tasks range from analyzing business requirements to creating the design and html build on projects within the larger branding direction set by the Art Director to assisting the Production Team with day-to-day graphic design needs.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Work with agencies to analyze their business objectives and direction in order to develop branding and integrated site designs;
Create visual designs within the larger branding direction set by the Art Director;
Assist with the translation of business requirements into project information architecture (the underlying content, organization and navigational interface of a project);
Work in a team environment with good organizational abilities;
Work on multiple projects simultaneously with a minimum of supervision;
Perform graphic updates on NYC.gov;
Perform graphic duties elsewhere within the enterprise

NECESSARY SKILLS:
Minimum 3 years design experience; 2 years Internet-related design experience and interaction design;
An online portfolio that demonstrates strong visual design skills and ability to work within established branding irections, and that also demonstrates experience designing for information- or technology-heavy projects and ability to work within technology constraints;
Proficiency with design and prototyping tools (Photoshop, Illustrator, Html/GoLive/ Dreamweaver);
Experience developing information architecture on medium- to large-scale projects;
Proven analytical skills through work experience;
Ability to communicate and collaborate with multi-disciplinary team members;
Ability to work on multiple projects to completion with a minimum of supervision;
Bachelors Degree with a minimum of 3 years full-time professional work experience

ADDITIONAL PREFERRED SKILLS:
Strong verbal and written presentation skills;
Working understanding of back-end technologies (databases, content management systems);
Identity/ logo design experience;
Bachelors Degree in a design- or communications-related field
