Major Function:Responsible for the management and coordination of the product development technical support functions of industrial design, technical publications, drafting and configuration management. Responsible for developing, improving and maintaining engineering standards, systems and processes.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Industrial Design• Manage the industrial design and graphic design support of product development, including the following:o Collection, analysis, and synthesis of customer datao Creation and development of concepts and specifications that optimize function, value, and appearance for the customer and Toro.o Strengthen and enhance the Toro brand and customer experience via aesthetic and ergonomic designs.
Technical Publications• Set the vision, strategy, and direction for the department• Manage the Research, creation, translation, and maintenance of end-user instructional and replacement parts documentation required by Toro’s equipment divisions – Commercial, Consumer, Lawn-Boy, Landscape Contractor, and International.• Manage the processes, publishing tools, and on-line systems that support business strategies.
Drafting• Manage drafting pool that models parts, creates assemblies and detail drawings, and other technical/systems work to support product development and change management.• Support CAE/CAD applications, systems, and training.
Configuration Management• Manage the timely and accurate processing of product releases, product changes, parts obsolescence, and related technical information needed to meet global requirements.• Manage the new SKU release process.Standards, Systems and Processes• Lead, plan, and implement cross-divisional/cross-functional business processes, information technologies (e.g. SAP, Pro/E, database publishing), workflow, and business rules that support product development, data and documentation creation/management, and information access/distribution.• Lead company-wide initiatives to improve the effectiveness of Product Development processes, standards, and technologies.• Represent Engineering on the I.S. technology planning team.Supervisory:• Coach and lead subordinates in their own personal development, providing resources and opportunities.• Conducts performance appraisals and salary reviews in accordance with policy.• Sets and monitors objectives for subordinates.• Assists in selection, training and discipline of employees.• Manages assigned resources to complete approved projects and established objectives.
Technical:• Learn and implement new technologies to improve the product development process.• May provide "hands on" technical support on an as needed basis.
Other Duties and Responsibilities:• Performs miscellaneous duties as may be requested.Job Dimensions:Has direct supervision of up to 6 employees and up to 35 employees indirectly. Plans and administers annual operating budget. Supports 4 divisions directly and all divisions indirectly. Collaborates with all divisional departments and corporate functions to achieve defined objectives. Must have practical experience with SAP, Pro-E and database publishing.
REQUIREMENTS
BSME degree required. Eight (8) to fifteen (15) years experience (five(5) to eight(8) years plus supervision).
