ETL Analyst/Developer
ROLE OVERVIEW:
This person will be a member of the core Information Support Group that provides support to all Strategic Business Units. Candidate responsibilities include all aspects of ETL development and implementation, including data source identification, data analysis, data profiling, ETL specifications, coding, and testing. This resource will design, code, and unit test the ETL processes using Informatica PowerCenter, under the direction of a Sr. ETL Analyst or manager.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
The ETL Analyst is a developer that performs the following core functions:
•Captures source file/table definitions
•Captures target Data Warehouse or Data Mart table definitions
•Develops Mappings using the PowerCenter Mapping Designer
•Creates tasks and workflows for execution of the ETL processes
•Performs impact analysis and reporting for change management and maintenance purposes
•Develops Transformation Objects using the Transformation Developer
•Conducts and participates in code reviews, validation, and testing of team member’s code
•Performs testing and validation activities for ETL mappings, workflows, and data domain validation in ODS and Mart targets
In addition:
•Designs and documents ETL processes and workflows
•Promotes ISG Informatica/ETL standards and best practices
•Creates system operations documentation and works with Administrators to manage implementation
•Identifies re-use opportunities (e.g., global/sharable objects)
•Collaborates with Infrastructure, DBA, & ETL team on performance tuning
•Trouble-shoot and support production along with team members
•Assists in project assessment, planning, and estimating
REQUIRED SKILLS:
•3+ years ETL development experience with Informatica PowerCenter, including hands-on development, reading from multiple sources to a single target within the same mapping
•Solid understanding of data warehousing / business intelligence concepts, terminology, and methodologies
•Comprehensive Informatica training and experience. Includes the following:
*Mapping analysis, design, debugging
*Session/workflow design for efficient system resource utilization
*Impact analysis, problem isolation, and Performance Tuning
*Metadata Reporting
•Experienced with the following DBMS activities:
*Solid SQL programming skills
*Index design and use
*Mainframe and Open systems DBMS utilities for explain path analysis, data extract & loading using flat files and DBMS objects, performance tuning, etc. DBMS platforms include DB2, UDB, Oracle, MS SQL, etc.
•UNIX fundamentals, utility usage, and shell scripting experience
•Ability to read dimensional & relational data models and interface with data designers
•Works well in a team environment. Works well with business analysts, source system experts and other technical subject matter specialists
OTHER SKILLS/EXPERIENCE (Desired but not required):
•Java coding experience
•XML-based sources and targets, schema validation, and XSLT translations
•An understanding of data quality/profiling assessment techniques and tools
•Exposure to Autosys or Zeke job schedulers
•An understanding of metadata and repository management
•Insurance industry experience
•Any Informatica PowerCenter administration experience
