Director of Engineering and Product Development



My Client, one of the largest Window and Door Manufacturers, is currently seeking a Director of Engineering and Product Development. The Director of Engineering and Product Development is responsible for all aspects of Design Engineering across all Brands and Business Units. The Director provides leadership and guidance to the Engineering staff to assure the accurate and efficient development of new products and enhancements to existing products. This includes developing high performing teams of engineers, designers, technical information developers, model makers, testing and certification technicians and BOM/Records staff. The Director must assure that there is adequate staffing to accomplish corporate goals, facilitate cross-functional communication and evaluate the people and processes to determine adequate resource utilization. As a key member of the Strategic Planning Team, the Director provides insight to help shape the overall direction of the company.



This position reports to the Owner of the Company and works closely with other corporate Directors and Managers to meet overall corporate objectives.



The Director will provide leadership to a staff of managers, engineers and designers. Interfacing with the owners and other executive staff, the Director participates in planning and directing the projects and programs that are necessary to meet corporate goals. This includes determining clear project definitions, outlining features and benefits, establishing cost targets, determining the scope of projects and prioritizing projects accordingly. Working with the Engineering Managers, the Director assures that proper staffing is maintained, needed skills sets exist (or are obtained through training), appropriate working hours are monitored (including overtime to meet deadlines as required), and that projects are tracked and progress is clearly communicated. The Director will also drive improvements in productivity through development of processes and procedures. These processes and procedures will be both internal to the department and also external relating to cross-functional communication and support of other departments.



Responsibilities & Duties:

· Provide Leadership and mentor engineering staff.

· Collaborate with other Directors, Managers and staff to make process improvements.

· Participate in Planning at the corporate level.

· Develop and maintain a high performing staff.

· Assure appropriate project management and control.

· Provide guidance through hands-on participation with staff.

Education and Required Experience:

· Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related technical field required. (Masters, EIT or PE a plus)

· 15 years experience with a minimum of 5 years of Project Management and 10 years of Personnel Management with increasing responsibility

· Experience in the Window and Door Industry is MUST!
