Director, Architecture

Job Overview:

The Director, Product Architecture is primarily responsible the architecture of complex software systems for the healthcare industry. The position requires a fundamental understanding of Project Management as it pertains to software development. The role requires assertiveness in moving the software architecture skill forward in a challenging environment and previous large scale architecture experience and the ability to quantitatively define the software qualities and tactics to define and 'grade' a software architecture. The ideal candidate will be able to interface with other SDLC Directors as well as senior management to ensure that all architecture development is aligned with the vision of the Company.


Principal Responsibilities:

Determine and define product architectural model based on customer requirements and technical drivers
Set and communicate the technical vision of the project and provide technical leadership to ensure integrity of information, application integration and technical development with the architectural model.
Model current infrastructure and determine migration strategy.
Evaluate and recommend appropriate hardware and network infrastructure based on cost, performance and need.
Ensure that product requirements for quality, security, reliability and performance levels are met.
Oversee the integration of commercial and custom components as well as integration with other business infrastructures as necessary.
Create and enforce architectural standards that enable the company's products to interoperate.
Ensure that the software and system architectures are in synchronization.
Act as the emissary of the architecture.
Provide input as needed to issues like tool and environment selection.
Identify and interact with stakeholders to make sure their needs are being met.
Make sure that the architecture is not only the right one for operations, but also for deployment, and maintenance.
Resolve technical problems.
Understand and plan for evolutionary paths. Plan for new technology insertion.
Manage risk identification and risk mitigation strategies associated with the architecture.


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Ability to articulate and document the quality attributes of an architecture, the tactics for achieving those qualities and finally creating, documenting and maintaining the documentation of the architecture(s).
Ability to effectively manage change and comfortably manage risk and uncertainty.
Ability to make good decisions based upon a mixture of analysis, wisdom, experience, and judgment.
Ability to be very bottom-line-oriented and steadfastly push self and others for results.
Ability to bring creative ideas of others to market and to judge which creative ideas and suggestions will work.
Knowledge about how organizations work, including the ability to get things done both though formal channels and the informal network.
Ability to assimilate the origin and reasoning behind current key policies, practices, and procedures and understand the cultures of organizations that already exist, and support the software technology roadmap.
Experience developing, implementing and supporting systems applications in large scale projects in multi-tier environments using object oriented software.
Experience with infrastructure strategy and design in complex environments.
Broad understanding of company business issues and their integration with broad and complex information systems applications
Effective leadership, project management, problem solving and organizational skills
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Analysis experience should include working with clients to develop business requirements and creating complex models.
Experienced with development methodologies such as the Rational Unified Process
Fluent in UML
Familiar with modeling tools like Rose and Together
Experience with relational database technologies
J2EE experience
REQUIREMENTS
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree or greater in applicable field, or equivalent experience (prefer Masters degree (MA, MS, MBA) in a related discipline.)

Eight (8) plus years of professional experience in related field.

Five years of experience with J2EE technologies
