Design Engineer-Cooper Power
Purpose: Founded in 1985, Cooper Power Systems (CPS), with its combination of McGraw-Edison, Kyle, RTE and Kearney product lines, provides an unequaled array of products for substation, overhead, underground and in-plant medium and high voltage distribution systems. Their products include transformers, capacitors, voltage regulators, reclosers and sectionalizers, distribution switchgears, transformer fluids, distribution automation equipment, transformer components, components and protective equipment. Electric utility companies use these products to bring electric power to homes, industries, businesses, and institutions throughout the world . Due to the market demand, Cooper Power Systems is looking to add a Design Engineer.
The responsibilities of the Design Engineer include, but are not limited to:
-Design and support state of the art microprocessors based controls for utility switchgear products
-Interface with all departments within the manufacturing environment
-Emphasis on addressing manufacturing, service, and vendor issues
-Responsible for accuracy of production drawings and specifications
-Responsible for resolving product and manufacturing problems of a non-standard or non-repetitive nature related to design and performance
-Identifies opportunities for improved product manufacture and cost
-Responsible for generating new ideas and concepts for new products and cost savings on existing products
-Provide technical guidance as needed to customize and to support existing electronic and firmware designs for relays and re-closer controls
Position Qualifications:
-BS degree in Electrical / Electronics Engineering is required, MS is preferred
-Design and support experience in embedded firmware and hardware
-In-depth knowledge of the Motorola 860 Power PC (or equivalent) microprocessor and familiarity with associated technologies (FPGA, BGA, & SMT)
-Development and test equipment such as emulators, logic analyzers, oscilloscopes, etc
-Knowledge of firmware design principles and standards
-Field experience in EMI susceptibility, RF emissions, ESD, and surge protection
-Knowledge of printed circuited board layout strategies, grounding practices, and PCB conformal coatings
-Knowledge of manufacturing and testing methods for mechanical, electrical, and electronic products, applications, and systems
-Experience in the design of data acquisition systems, analog and digital circuits, and communications protocolsClassification:Direct HireCompensation:
