Design Engineer
REPORTS TO:
Director of Nutritional Projects
POSITION SUMMARY:
Responsible for the creation and revision of engineering design data as required for product research and development. Knowledge of injection molding design for thermoplastics is essential to this position as is a thorough understanding of design for manufacture. Knowledge of mechanical equipment design is a plus. Responsibilities include designing and prototyping of new concepts, development and commercialization of concepts, laboratory testing and report writing. This position is very much a team environment, but the ability to work independently as a self starter is needed. Duties include development of specifications, determination of materials, as well as designing and conducting design verification studies and validation testing. Individual will create design layouts, bills of material and detail drawings of Medinstill products and associated tooling, fixtures and test equipment.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
•Use Pro/Engineer (Wildfire II) to generate part models, assembly models, detail drawings and bills of material
•Gather design inputs from Project Management, team members and external suppliers
•Interpret data from product specifications, test reports, inspection reports and material specifications
•Determine design direction and or modifications required for components of systems, using judgment based on experience and collaborative effort.
•Specify materials, processes, inspection requirements and tolerances
•Perform mechanical verification and validation testing with internal and external sources
•Use hand tools to make simple parts and do manual assembly
•Perform first piece inspection
•Execute test plans and collect test data
•Maintain records related to design history and expenditures
REQUIREMENTS
JOB QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
Training & Experience:
•Minimum of 5 years in a product development engineering environment, ideally with a heavy emphasis on injection molded parts development
•Strong conceptual design skills with emphasis on reliability, manufacturability, aesthetics and production costs
•Bachelors degree preferred in Mechanical Engineering or related degree preferred, will consider experience as well.
•Excellent Problem solving ability. Creativity and an ability to find a simple solution to complex problems
•Highly proficient in 3D CAD, preferably Pro/Engineer Wildfire
•Knowledge of manufacturing processes, capabilities and materials
•Familiarity with cGMP, FDA and ISO regulations is a plus.
•Good verbal and written communication skills, as well as good interpersonal skills
