Reports to: Project ManagerJob Summary:
Under the direction of a project manager and /or direct supervisor, the Design Development Engineer is in charge of the project conduct and engage in the conceptual, creative, technological and analytical design activities required to design and develop components, systems and assemblies for new products and changes or modifications to existing products. Plan, schedule and coordinate phases of engineering projects. Lead design team members in completing the above. Provide specialist hydraulic system and component integration knowledge and coaching.Responsibilities to Include:
Conceive, design and develop components of new products and changes or modifications to existing products through the use of basic engineering principles.
Perform the required engineering calculations, research, cost estimation, etc. of each assigned project in order to complete them in accordance with established specifications and schedules.
Assist Manufacturing Engineering as required to optimize manufacturing processes, tooling requirements, make/buy decision making, labor and material cost estimates, etc.
Provide product design-related information and assist in the resolution of complex manufacturing problems.
Coordinate, with Purchasing, to locate, investigate, and develop potential purchased component and system suppliers.
Coordinate the construction and testing of prototype and pilot models and components; competitive models; quality control checkouts, etc.
Analyze engineering test data relating to current and new products; make recommendations for improvements and cost reductions.
Instruct and assist designers and drafters in the preparation of drawings, calculations and specifications.
Prepare detail and layout drawings by use of computer-aid engineering tools (CAD/CAM); set up specifications and other pertinent design data for layout and detail drawings.
Process engineering change notices (ECN’s), compile bills of material and specifications as required to conform with engineering and product development disciplines.
Participate on product teams to increase commonality of designs, reduce product complexity, improve product manufacturability and serviceability, and minimize the number of suppliers.
Participate on teams to resolve field service product problems; reduce product cost and improve product quality and warranty.
Integrate manufacturing process and technology considerations into the product design process.
Provide technical information and specifications required by purchasing, technical publications, service, etc.
Prepare technical reports; write test specifications.
Keep abreast of and well informed on new developments in the engineering field through contact with educational institutions, seminars, professional societies, perusal of texts, technical papers, journals and periodicals.
Provide specialist hydraulic system and component integration knowledge and coaching for the business.
May supervise 1-4 more junior engineers.A Textron Company
REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline or equivalent
MS in an engineering discipline highly desirable.Position Requirements:
6-10 years experience in product design including a significant proportion designing and integrating total hydraulic systems and individual components.
PE and supervision experience highly desirable.
Typical Office environment with light to simple physical exertion.
Occasional business travel with outside work conditions.
