Data Architect & Reporting
Job Description:
This position must be able to interpret business needs into data requirements - including such attributes as naming standards, consistent data definitions, data aliases, associated business rules, data sources, retention criteria, derivations, security restrictions, accessibility, reusability, frequency of updates, linkages and integration.
The technical architect must be able to ensure only the right data is captured, manipulated, and kept current and accurate. This position must be able to envision the value of data to the bottom line, and to translate this for implementation into corporate data models, reporting, and business metrics.
Principle Accountabilities:
1.Design Data Marts, OLAP cubes with tools such as Hyperion Essbase, DB2 OLAP, Microsoft SQL Server Analysis Services, Crystal Reports, Business Objects, Sharepoint, dot.net, PLSQL, XML, others to be defined as required by the business. 2. Document the data architecture and automate business reporting/metrics 3. Be a futurist (i.e. visionary of future data uses) 4.Be a catalyst for converting data into knowledge information management 5.Take a lead position in the formulation of standards for data architecture and reporting/metrics 6.Ensure all data components are properly integrated 7.Incorporate sophisticated calculations using scripts & macros 8.Educate the data architects & business community on the value of data and associated attributes 9. Work closely with the internal ITS team resources on new business system design to ensure required data is available for use in business reporting 10. Define, recommend and implement appropriate partitioning, processing, storage, and security methods. 11. Conduct other special ITS projects as assigned. 12. Fulfills departmental requirements in terms of providing work coverage and administrative notification during periods of illness, vacation, or education. 13. Perform at or above the Department Evaluation Standards are required for positions in the Information Technology services Department.Qualifications:
To perform this position successfully, the individual must be able to execute each of these essential duties at the highest quality level. The requirements below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
Qualifications include a strong track record in handling multiple tasks, knowledge of the telecommunication industry, understanding of the CLEC processes, exposure to ROI & Project Planning, and adherence to quality business practices. Furthermore, this position must read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals and technical procedures.
Credentials:
A Bachelors degree is the minimum education needed, preferably in Computer Science or Management Information Systems. Certification in tools, process, and project management are preferred. Minimum of 4 years experience in the Telecommunications Industry Minimum 8 years expertise & proficiency in an ITS environment professional position in the following areas: Business Objects, dot.net, PLSQL, Oracle database, Huperion Essbase, OLAP cubes, Crystal Reports, Scripting, UNIX, DB 2, MS SQL, MS Access, MS Excel, MS Powerpoint. Must have fully proficient understanding of Data Warehouse methodology and best practices. Ability to travel to company and vendor sites is expected. Willingness to train other staff members and transfer knowledge Overtime is required - generally this averages 5-10 hours per week with some weeks being as high as 15 hours and other weeks as low as 3 hours. The individual must be a quick learner and work with no supervision.
