Architectural Design Manager

Purpose: GENERAL SUMMARY: Manages Planning and Design Department; coordinates drawings for Region/Division; keeps abreast of the design projects underway as well as the future design needs of Region/Division.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

-Assigns and schedules work for all direct reports.
-Reviews plans at schematic and checks set stages for accuracy and completeness. Discusses and suggests changes to simplify structure and reduce cost (Value engineering).
-Manages preparation and review of construction drawings for all new plans, as well as for on-going production, revisions, and new elevations of existing plans, including setting goals/keeping schedules/holding annual employee reviews.
-Ensures all drawings comply with the standards and include all necessary information (with staff assistance).
-Ensures compliance with Planning and Design Best Practices.
-Procures answers to day-to-day questions regarding clarification of drawings, corrections, field errors, etc.
-Assists with interviewing and hiring CAD staff.
-Works closely with construction and component plant operations, if applicable, to determine when and where plan changes will be implemented, and communicating this information to all concerned.
-Assists Regional Director, Divisional President/Executive and Corporate VP Planning and Design with reviewing all plans to ensure non-performing plans and elevations are eliminated, revised or replaced.
-Performs periodic house walks to ensure compliance with our plans and specifications.
-Prepares forms, obtains photography, and coordinates process to obtain copyright protection for each current floor plan if necessary.
-Assists Region/Division President and/or Regional Director in preparing annual budget for P&D department.
-Assists with drafting plans when necessary.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS:

-Possesses a keen eye for detail.
-Thorough knowledge of residential construction, general codes requirements, and design preferences throughout the country.
-Understands use and applications of CAD drafting software and related computer operations.
-Proficiency in e-mail, word processing, spreadsheet, presentation software, and related computer communication operations.
-Ability to prepare and conduct effective public presentations.
-Ability to manage people/exercise leadership sensibly and effectively. Possesses strong organizational/time management skills.
-Understands how to deal reasonably with varied personality types. Possesses positive outgoing personality.
-Bachelor degree in design/construction related field from accredited institution with ten years of progressive experience preferably with hands on field experience in purchasing, construction, or land development or a two year technical degree with twelve years of progressive experience preferably with hands on field experience in purchasing, construction, or land development
-Ability to travel overnight 10% of the time.
