Application Developers

The Cato Corporation of Charlotte, NC, a leading specialty retailer of women's apparel, is expanding its IT department to accommodate strong company growth and several new technology initiatives. We are seeking experienced application developers at all levels including Business/Systems Analysts, Programmer/Analysts and Programmers. We are undertaking an aggressive program of transforming our legacy applications to open systems and implementing new, business critical packaged solutions. We are transforming our infrastructure to state-of-the-art technology using open systems, and databases and web based applications to improve the effectiveness of the business. Business/Systems Analysts – We have Analyst positions available related to all functions of the business including merchandising, distribution, store operations and finance. Analysts will build and maintain strong business alliances with the operating departments in the Company and provide guidance to senior management on how to maximize the use of technology and improve operating processes and efficiency within the business units. Analysts will also work closely with their peers on other IT teams to optimize the integration of applications and processes across the Company. These positions offer the opportunity to develop and implement internal processes and procedures to make the application development process more efficient and productive. Candidates must have extensive IT experience, with 10-15 years of application development experience. Experience in the applications and technologies listed below is also required. Experience in project leadership is also required.

Programmer/Analysts - Programmer/Analysts will work closely with the Business Analysts and the business units to design and implement new software solutions and major enhancements of current and new applications. Programmer/Analysts will work with the Programming team to ensure efficiency of applications and to ensure that the applications are ready for production. Experience in the full system development life cycle is required. Programmer/Analysts must be experienced in the design of user interfaces, database access and application integration methods required to implement applications that operate across the Company. An understanding of the implementation of application controls is also required. Programmer/Analysts must have significant experience with one or more of the technologies listed below.

Programmers - Programmers will work with the Analysts to develop software to implement new applications and enhancements of existing applications, as well as install packaged software. Programmers will also develop interfaces among enterprise-wide applications. Programmers will develop documentation and restart/recovery procedures for new applications. Programmers must be experienced in one or more of the technologies listed below.
REQUIREMENTS
General Qualifications – At least five years of retail experience is required for the Analyst and Programmer/Analyst positions. All positions require a bachelor’s degree in an IT specialty or business. An MBA is preferable for the Analyst positions. All positions require excellent communication skills and high energy level. Candidates must be able to conduct meetings, publish project status reports and interact with business unit and IT management. Candidates must be familiar with best practices associated with application development and be from an environment where they are accountable for individual performance and on-time completion of projects.

Successful candidates for all positions will have experience in one or more of the following technologies.

Retek RMS and RDW and other Retek applications
Oracle Database – Oracle 8i, 9i and/or 10g
Oracle Financials
Manhattan Associates Warehouse Management, Labor Management and/or Productivity Management
Lawson HR/PR and G/L and other financial applications
Experience in Merchandise Planning and Allocation, Sales Audit, Loss Prevention, POS, Sales Analysis
