Job Summary and Mission
This job contributes to Starbucks success by managing multiple teams of purchasing professionals. Ensures consistent sources of supply while meeting cost, schedule, service and quality requirements. Leads efforts to identify opportunities to improve costs, lead times, service and quality. Models and acts in accordance with Starbucks guiding principles.
Summary of Key Responsibilities

Leadership - Setting goals for the work group, developing organizational capability, and modeling how we work together:
Identifies and communicates key responsibilities and practices to ensure the immediate team of direct reports promotes a successful attitude, confidence in leadership, and teamwork to achieve business results.Supports the implementation of company programs to ensure the success of the Company.Planning and Execution - Developing strategic and operational plans for the work group, managing execution, and measuring results:
Develops purchasing team goals to support departmental and company goals. Develops strategies, schedules and work assignments to ensure that projects meet time and budget goals.Leads efforts to reduce costs and improve quality. Develops, maintains and analyzes supplier performance measurements. Develops recommendations for reducing costs and improving quality.Plans and manages business unit/department processes and practices to ensure that programs are aligned with company business goals and objectives.Prepares, communicates and educates client groups and team on changes in policies and practices within the organization.Works with category managers to develop sourcing strategies.Business Requirements - Providing functional expertise and executing functional responsibilities:
Analyzes company spending patterns to identify opportunities to combine business unit and departmental purchases to reduce total costs and simplify operations. Identifies opportunities to form supplier alliances to improve cost, quality and service.Communicates with suppliers and within the Company to ensure understanding of and support for purchasing processes, projects, strategies and initiatives. Provides technical expertise on purchasing matters to internal customers. Ensures purchasing representation on all product team projects.Coordinates with materials management partners to identify planned purchasing requirements.Develops and enhances purchasing processes and procedures. Makes continuous improvements in costs, lead times and inventory control.Develops service and material sources to support successful entry into new markets and new ventures as well as long-term growth.Manages multiple teams of purchasing professionals. Oversees supplier selection and negotiations. Coordinates with category managers to establish, manage and maintain supplier relationships.Oversees implementation of automated procurement systems. Leads development of program enhancements to facilitate critical data collection and reporting. Ensures that purchasing team members make optimal use of a Material Resource Planning (MRP) and forecast-driven procurement system.Partner Development & Team Building - Providing partners with coaching, feedback, and developmental opportunities and building effective teams:
Challenges and inspires partners to achieve business results.Conducts and ensures the completion of performance reviews.Ensures partners adhere to legal and operational compliance requirements.Oversees training and development of partners directly and indirectly managed and makes effective staffing decisions.Provides coaching, direction and leadership support to team members in order to achieve partner, business and customer results.
