Underwriting Associate

The Underwriting Associate contributes to the achievement of the Department of Financial Institutions (DFI) goals as well as corporate goals relating to growth, profit, renewal retention, service and producer/client management.

The Underwriting Associate: Analyzes account-specific information (including but not limited to loss information, loss control reports, catastrophe information) and prepares risk report for referral to the underwriter; Develops information and recommendations, based on the account analysis that will be used as the basis for the renewal strategy; Determines pricing strategy in conjunction with underwriter; Coordinates the renewal process for the underwriter; Reviews submission information with the underwriter, coordinates the quotation process with the CSR, and completes the risk report for all new business; Completes all issuance instructions including appropriate forms, coverages and final premium; Ensures electronic file integrity; May include renewal underwriting authority; Includes dual accountability to OSD and Underwriting management. The position requires travel to home office for training.
REQUIREMENTS
The individual in this position must have strong communication, multitasking, and organizational skills. In addition, the individual must demonstrate the following skills: - Mathematical aptitude - Knowledge of all applicable rating systems - Knowledge of all underwriting and rate/rule manuals - Proficiency in on-line reference manuals (Customarq Reference Library, customer group website) - Familiarity with regulatory agencies as appropriate to state(s) in territory - Knowledge of electronic systems (WIP, CUW, Producer Inquiry, Nonresident License Inquiry, Countersignature, ELIAS, MIS III, Lotus Notes, TSO/Focus, Internet) - Knowledge of underwriting principles - Knowledge of policy forms - Ability to Recognize exposure to loss - Proficiency in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint - Ability to organize work and perform within time constraints - Strong written, verbal communication skills. New college graduates welcome.
