Teradata Architect Lead

RESPONSIBILITIES: SUMMARY


Job Description: This person designs software solutions and leads programmers in the development of software solutions utilizing UNIX shell and SQL scripting on the Teradata database.


This person will create, develop, and/or review the logical and physical data model that are efficient for data processing and reporting, ensuring that the detailed physical design of data structures and databases complies with standards and conventions.

This person provides a high level consulting insight to the software development life cycle by acting as a liaison to the Business process teams, evaluating functional specifications, creating technical designs and estimates, and coaching and mentoring programmers.

Must have strong software design and development experience. A can-do, hands-on professional able to learn quickly and take responsibility for getting the job done. This position will be 80% new development and 20% supporting current applications.MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Demonstrated hands on experience in business application design and development using Teradata.

Ability to read and troubleshoot UNIX Shell Scripts, Database Problems, SQL, FTP Scripts, MicroFocus COBOL.

In-depth knowledge in RDBMS - Teradata, data modeling (ERWIN), enterprise warehousing, client-server, performance tuning and optimization

Working knowledge of a RDBMS reporting tool (example – MicroStrategy)

Working knowledge of a production scheduling package (example – Tivoli Maestro/Workload Scheduler)

Experience in leading full-phase project life cycle technical development for new applications – planning, requirements gathering and analysis to design, development, testing, rollout and maintenance.KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES CONSIDERED
Knowledge of data migration tools

Knowledge of database management and file access methods

Works well within a team environment as well as individually

Ability to provide leadership to junior level developers

Strong experience in applying basic programming concepts including writing, troubleshooting and debugging programs; logic flow; design; testing requirements; documentation to development tasks.

Working knowledge of SQL and Teradata Utilities

Ability to follow corporate standards with respect to tools and processes

Specific application knowledge

Good time management skills in coding, testing, and implementing complex programs

Support and trouble-shoot production systems as required, optimizing performance, resolving production problems and providing timely follow-up on problem reports

Excellent analytical skills

Interface with customers and other BIS groups to determine requirements

Good communication skills interdepartmentally and within the CCE user community

Strong knowledge and understanding of structured analysis and technical design techniques

Ability to establish and maintain a high level of user trust and confidence in the team and concern for business needs

Ability to effectively adapt to and apply rapidly changing user requirementsESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Responsible for development, creation and testing of modifications to existing programs

Responsible for providing direction to junior level and contract programmers.

Assist in pre/post-implementation of production programs

Coordinate with all cross-functional groups when enhancements and maintenance of applications are necessary

Provides upward (project lead/management) and lateral communication regarding the status of projects

Proactively identifies problems and makes recommendations regarding solutions

Responsible for end-user (customer) satisfaction QUALIFICATIONS: MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor’s degree in Computer science or IS or equivalent job experience

7+ years programming/DBA experience including a minimum of 5 years relational database experience, 4 years Teradata and Unix programming experience.

Working knowledge developing databases for reporting (Microstrategy).

Experienced in mentoring programmers

Experience as a team member on project teams in a cross-functional environment

Demonstrated initiative and good judgment.

Successful development and implementation of new technology

Demonstrated successful development and implementation of new processes

Experience in working with users to develop solutions to complex business problems

Solid business communication skills
