SUMMARY
Address and respond to customer inquiries and complaints on service disturbances; formulate service restoration plans; coordinate activities for normal maintenance or emergency repairs; analyze outage data and recommend system upgrades to improve service reliability; and ensure efficient, economical, and reliable electric service that exceeds customer expectations while maintaining the highest level of customer service.
SYSTEM OPERATOR I, STEPS 1 AND 2 ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other related duties may be assigned. To perform this job successfully and effectively, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodation may be available to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
Respond to customer inquiries on service disturbances, service reliability, and power quality taking appropriate action to address customer inquiries and perform necessary follow-up.
Record and relay pertinent service disturbance data; coordinate with service restoration personnel; document pertinent data; and maintain various reports and databases related to system disturbances.
Assist in analysis of system disturbance data and formulation of service restoration plans providing recommendations to the supervisor on duty and service restoration personnel.
Utilize internet weather data, satellite imagery, and Doppler radar to prepare for possible service disturbances.
Verify integrity of and utilize data in automated computer systems when researching and responding to outage inquiries and complaints.
Write and execute switching orders involving single-phase lines within the same circuit issuing clearance and appropriate tagging locations in accordance with established policies and procedures.
Under the direction of a supervisor or journeylevel System Operator, perform limited SCADA operations necessary to analyze system load, voltage, and load management data using data to make appropriate adjustments.
Monitor security and fire alarms, implement emergency plans and procedures, and serve as primary point-of-contact for hazardous field conditions.
Perform position responsibilities in accordance with NOVEC policies and procedures and VOSHA safety regulations.
REQUIREMENTS
EDUCATION
High School Diploma or recognized equivalent with a technical or mathematical background is required.
EXPERIENCE
Two years of experience in a technical customer-service oriented position is required. Previous experience in an emergency response or crisis management environment is highly desired.
SKILLS AND ABILITIESApply analytical methodology to problem solving and decision making and relate theoretical and/or technical concepts to practical application.
Communicate effectively with all levels of staff and the general public both orally and in writing while maintaining professionalism under all circumstances.
Apply effective organization abilities, detail orientation, and research techniques to fulfill position responsibilities.
Apply proficiency in ability to operate various communication devices, personal computers, and related software systems including but not limited to Microsoft Office and IBM compatible office products.
Anticipate and meet rapidly changing customer and business needs by quickly refocusing and realigning strategic and operational direction.
Perform multiple work assignments and responsibilities in a timely and accurate manner within established guidelines under minimal supervision while providing superior customer service.
