JOB DESCRIPTION
TITLE:Senior Network Engineer
REPORTS TO:Information Technology Manager
DEPARTMENT:Information Technology - Network Services
LOCATION:Chicago, IL
GENERAL SUMMARY:The Senior Network Engineer is responsible to the IT Manager for providing day-to-day administrative and engineering support for the data network including, but not limited to, the data network components, management systems and services.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The essential functions of the position include, but are not limited to the following duties consistent with the Network Engineer function:
1.Responsible for the day-to-day network engineering and operational support of the customer, vendor, and core exchange connectivity. The primary focus is to provide 2nd and 3rd level support for customer, core trade, & vendor connectivity and performance issues. This includes working closely with other Senior Network Engineers and Telecommunications Network Architect to understand capacity and design aspects and limitations of telco and network infrastructure; acting as a resource to Provisioning, Connectivity, and Fix teams in the implementation of customer and vendor circuits; provide network management systems which deliver network performance and fault management of the client, vendor, and core networks; apply advanced trouble-shooting techniques to keep network environment stable and adhering to standard operating practices.
2.Meet with and maintain excellent relations with Fix, Client Services, Sales and Client groups, keeping all abreast of issues, trends, and current events.
3.Design, configure and implement Network Services infrastructure which support client, vendor and core trade networks. Engage Development, PMO, Fix and client services teams to define requirements of network systems and processes.
4.Support and maintain internal and external service provider (SFTI, Cisco ROS, Radianz, etc.) relationships by providing 2nd and 3rd level support. Review service provider reports; act as liason and measure service provider effectiveness. Develop vendor relationships.
5.Create detailed and summary management report that have fault and performance views for core trading systems, collocation clients, and overall customer bandwidth utilization. Create capacity planning reports to be used by Telecommunications Network Architect, Senior Network Engineers and management.
6.Maintain network configuration database including diagrams, network device configurations, IP addressing, and circuit inventory.
7.Be available at all times for customer, vendor interaction, whether that is support for sales calls, troubleshooting connectivity issues, or assisting in the provisioning process. Maintain excellent customer communications.
8.Establish and manage the relationship with all internal and external client and vendor technical contacts.
9.Attend all provisioning, client servicing, sales meetings and industry conferences as necessary to perform job function and to maintain excellent communications between all constituencies.
10.Self management of all assigned projects and tasks.

1.7 - 10 years of internetworking and security in:
a.Cisco routers and switches (i.e. 2600, 3500, 3700 and 7500s and 6500s).
b.Experience in designing, configuring and troubleshooting routing protocols (ex. OSPF, BGP, static routes, redistribution); deep understanding of TCP/IP protocol
c.Experience in designing and implementing security architectures (i.e. firewalls, access-lists, IDS, proxy, content delivery systems)
d.Experience in provisioning and troubleshooting TDM and Ethernet services. Experience in SONET ring architecture, Gigabit networks, & MPLS.
2.Experience in supporting Network Management systems
a.Experience in Fault, Configuration and Performance Network Management. (i.e. HP Openview, BMC, Tivoli, CiscoWorks, etc.)
b.Experience in managing, configuring, and using syslogs
c.TACACS+
d.Hands-on experience and verifiable ability in protocol analysis using tools of the trade (i.e. NetScout, Sniffers, EtherPeak, Bert tester, & packet generators)
3.Customer contact experience
4.Experience in the financial industry, specifically supporting an exchange environment.
5.Microsoft Office products, plus Visio.
Education:
CCNA or CCNP
Bachelor’s degree
