Norcal Waste Systems, Inc. and its subsidiaries provide solid waste management services throughout California, including collection, transfer, disposal, landfill management, recycling, and other waste services. The following position is currently available at Sunset Scavenger Company in San Francisco.

Operations Supervisor 1

We are seeking a candidate who will be accountable for supervising and providing leadership for general labor, ensuring that appropriate service is rendered. Assures rates are applied accurately on up to 18 to 25 routes, as directed by the Operations Manager.

Responsibilities:
Supervise employees.
Ensures employees comply with company policies and rules including the collective bargaining agreement.
Documents corrective and disciplinary actions.
Monitors work to ensure efficient and effective operations.
Performs observations to ensure highest level of customer service is provided including inspecting routes to ensure proper collection of materials. Resolves customer service problems promptly, ensures all extras and overlooks are picked up and responds to complaints of unsatisfactory service.
Assists managers in analyzing routes to balance workloads.
Possesses knowledge of Apartment, Commercial, and Residential rates. Monitors customer rates to ensure appropriate customer billing and proper customer service levels; identify “no service accounts” or customers with inadequate levels of service.
Advises Operations Manager of delinquent accounts and assists in their collection; also, avoids/corrects billing errors.
Enforces safety policies and procedures. Handles accident and injury investigations. Conducts crew tailgate and safety meetings as assigned. Works effectively with employees from other departments, agencies, and customers.
Participates in community events.
Drives trucks, as needed.
Directs the work of a work unit of 2 or more subordinates. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; reviewing performance and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
Other duties may be assigned.


REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent knowledge and experience preferred. Must read, write and speak English well.
Must be able to perform routine calculations.
Requires 2 to 4 years related experience. Must have a valid Class B Commercial Drivers License upon hire or within six months of hire. Knowledge of the technical and administrative requirements of waste collection and hazard containment expected, with a greater than average ability to understand and communicate technical information to subordinates and customers.
Computer literate and working knowledge of spreadsheet applications.
