Manufacturing / Application Engineer

Sierra Scientific Instruments designs, develops and manufactures medical devices and accessories for use in gastro-intestinal (GI) tract diagnostic evaluations. We are currently experiencing significant growth of our business through increased market adoption of our existing products and continued launch of new products. As a result, we have an increased demand for personnel to support our Manufacturing Engineering and Customer Support functions. Sierra Scientific Instruments needs a talented and versatile Manufacturing / Application engineer to work with their Production, Engineering, Quality Assurance and Customer Support teams. The ideal candidate will effectively perform the following core functions:•Manufacturing / Production build support including assembly, test and documentation related tasks.
•Perform raw material and in-process quality inspections.
•Must complete, review and / or audit all quality system related documents including process travelers and test data. This includes adherence and enforcement of documentation and process standards consistent with QSR and ISO 13485.
•Technical phone / e-mail support for customers and field sales representatives for hardware and software related issues.
•Perform failure analysis on raw material and finished goods and lead all returned merchandise failure analysis related efforts.
•Establish tools for monitoring design and / or process related performance and use data reporting to develop recommendations and solutions to problems.•Champion process improvement efforts related to building, testing and / or repairing products.
•Monitor vendor performance and use the internal CAPA process to drive vendor performance improvements.
•Work with the Product Development team to perform validation tests and champion pilot production assembly runs on new products.
•Develop tools to improve the customer experience with respect to their interaction with the Customer Support team.
REQUIREMENTS
•Bachelor of Science in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering.
•Minimum 5 years experience in a manufacturing related environment.
•Proven track record in a hands-on manufacturing environment.
•Ability to write / edit procedures and technical reports.
•Ability to read technical drawings / specifications and use basic mechanical and electrical inspection and diagnostic tools.
•Ability to analyze data and make decisions based upon behavioral trends.
•Strong understanding of computer hardware and Windows Operating Systems – including the ability to debug related problems.
•Strong communication skills and phone manner.
•Demonstrated commitment to customer service and a passion for solving problems.
•Exemplary attention to detail.
•Ability to function with limited supervision and make prompt decisions.
•Familiar with Operations related activities in accordance with ISO 13485 or ISO 9001:2000 (or equivalent Quality System standards).
