Human Services Specialist III

This position in Adult Protective Services (APS), performs a variety of assignments in case management for vulnerable or incapacitated adults, 18 years and older, who are alleged to be abused, neglected or exploited; determines if there is a need for any protective and/or social services; makes time sensitive contacts with clients and significant others and interviews those who may have knowledge of the situation; researches, obtains and analyzes complex financial and medical documents including psychological evaluations; collaborates with the client, providers and community resources to deliver appropriate assistance; files petitions for guardian/conservator as required and provides testimony for case related court appearances; prepares reports and keeps accurate and timely case notes/records; attends required statewide, district and unit meetings as well as periodic trainings.Occasional in-state travel required.To Apply: Select the Apply Now button

REQUIREMENTS
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): KNOWLEDGE of: case preparation for Administrative Hearings; case management which includes managing case load, organizing and diagnosing case problems, assessing needs and evaluating available resources; investigative methods and procedures; techniques and methods of interviewing and record searching pertaining to social services; documentation requirements which includes writing concise and comprehensive reports; placement and treatment of vulnerable/incapacitated adults; risk assessment for elder mistreatment, illnesses and psychological abuse. SKILL in: basic methods, techniques and practices of interviewing witnesses, alleged perpetrators and collateral resources; basic methods, techniques and practices of conducting investigations, examining and evaluating evidence; computer software packages such as Windows, Outlook and Word. ABILITY to: mediate or negotiate disagreements within protective services parameters; learn and apply policies, procedures, administrative rules and regulations, federal and state statutes as they relate to Adult Protective Services (APS); make decisive decision in a critical situation; establish and maintain effective working relationship with clients, staff, law enforcement and other regulatory agencies; analyze facts and reach logical conclusions; interact and educate customers about APS rules and regulations.IDEAL CANDIDATE: will possess a Bachelor's Degree in Social Work, Gerontology, Criminal Justice, Sociology, Psychology or other related social service degree.
