AIRPORT SHUTTLE STARTER

Under supervision of the Airport Manager at The Orlando International Airport, orderly directs the assigning and loading of vehicles with passengers on the dock outside the baggage claim (or other) areas of the Orlando International Airport. Has immediate operational authority to ensure that all shuttle drivers follow starter’s directions.

TYPICAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES: Provides information to passengers on distances and travel times to specific locations within the Greater Orlando area. Provides passengers with information on attractions, lodgings, restaurants, theme parks, dinner shows, and other points of interest. Checks transportation transfer tickets and vouchers from passengers prior to boarding. Assigns passengers to vehicles according to destination. Organizes passengers (parties) to ensure correct parties board correct vehicles. Uses two-way radio to communicate with lead starter on “B-1” dock to bring vehicles up from holding area to appropriate loading area at dockside. Log passenger information on starter logs including number of passengers, driver number, vehicle number, destination(s) and time out of Airport. Assists passenger in moving and/or loading of luggage onto vehicles. Interacts with Airport Cashiers to maintain smooth flow of passengers from cashier booths to dockside and onto vehicles. Assigns drivers to specific destinations, I.E. hotels, attractions, etc. according to passenger needs. Listens to passenger complaints and attempts to resolve if possible. Refers un-resolvable complaints to Airport Manager or to main office. Communicates with drivers to keep them informed of vehicle movements and status during all phases of holding, loading and departure. Also may be required to perform other related duties as requested.
REQUIREMENTS
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

Education:No formal education required.

Experience:Motor Shuttle, Town Car, Limousine or Bus driving experience preferred; or prior experience in the hospitality industry.

Skill at:Good oral and written communication skills.

Knowledge of:Greater Orlando area attractions, lodgings, restaurants, theme parks, dinner shows, central business districts, business parks, and other points of interest.

Licenses:None required.

Special
Requirements:Must be able to remain calm, pleasant and poised in high-pressure situations. Must have the ability to quickly and efficiently organize, direct and assist large numbers of passengers from the arrival area through counter sales and onto designated vehicles.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

oMust be able to understand and perform addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.

oMust be able to sustain a work load consisting of exerting 20 to 50 or more pounds of force occasionally (occurring up to 1/3 of the time), and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently (occurring 1/3 to 2/3 of the time) to move luggage, baggage, packages or other objects to and from dockside areas and/or vehicles.

oMust be able to communicate by telephone, two-way radio or in person in clear fluent English in a courteous, friendly and professional manner with passengers, drivers, cashiers, guests, Airport and law enforcement officials, co-workers and other persons.

oMust be able to read, understand and complete starter logs.
