Technical Software Full Time Consultant

Position Title: Consultant
Location: New York or Boston
General purpose:
Consultants travel to my Clients’ customer sites (travel required up to 70-80%, depending on location of assignments) to deliver high quality professional services in the design and implementation of complex, high-performance, mission-critical systems. They are motivated, talented problem solvers and keen team players that can also work effectively in isolation. Consultants also engage in customer training and represent my Client at public forums such as trade shows, exhibitions, and conferences.A Consultant works under general supervision as part of a consulting team. At this level, a Consultant has an influence on the team and good knowledge of consultancy processes and procedures.
Main Responsibilities:
A Consultant is involved in the timely execution and delivery of tasks in the areas of project management, requirements gathering, analysis, design, implementation, and test, and participates in the delivery of my Clients’ educational offerings.
REQUIREMENTS
Experience, skills and qualification needed:
A Consultant has a good understanding of an OO software engineering methodology, the roles involved and how these roles are executed in the context of a project.A minimum of two years' post-graduate experience and a diploma/degree in a computer-related discipline or the equivalent computer-related business experience is required.
Technical Skills:
•Very good knowledge of one of Java, C++ or another major language with at least working knowledge of a second.
•Very good knowledge of a scripting language on two platforms.
•Very good working knowledge of at least two development environments used at my Client (i.e. Microsoft Developer Studio, Eclipse, Clearcase, CVS, Subversion).
•Displays confidence in the design and implementation details of more complex multi-tier and peer-to-peer systems
•Works independently to solve customer problems.
•Very good knowledge of at least two operating systems used extensively in my Client (i.e. Unix (Solaris, HP-UX, Mac OS, Linux), Windows (NT/2000/XP), OS-390).
•Very good knowledge and experience of one of CORBA, J2EE, Net, or Web Services with confident working knowledge of another.
•Recognizes and recommends features in my Clients’ products that would assist certain verticals (i.e. Telecom, Finance, Manufacturing, Aerospace, Government).
Interpersonal Skills
•Ability to write and converse clearly, concisely and confidently on technical problems, solutions and workarounds.•Ability to present on technical subjects to the Services team; using a standardized modeling notation such as UML; confident use of electronic media (for example PowerPoint) and ad hoc white-boarding techniques to communicate sophisticated information; regularly submits articles to internal forums such as the Knowledge Base.
•Is comfortable and experienced with relevant process for role; can mentor more junior staff.
