Open Text is recruiting for an outstanding Technical Consultant focusing on solutions architecture, planning and design. This role requires 80-100% travel across the Central US to our clients' sites and will work out of a virtual office.
Purpose of Position
The Technical Consultant will work on medium sized engagements performing hands on Workflow/Taxonomy development, while advising, guiding and directing from a functional perspective. Works as a consulting team member or an individual Technical Consultant on product implementation, workflow Design and development, workflow enhancement, integration, or audit projects to meet the client's business needs. Works on problems of moderate scope where analysis of situations or data requires a review of identifiable factors. Exercises judgment within defined procedures and practices to determine appropriate action. Duties usually performed at customer’s site.
This role is key in pre-sales analysis and initiating pilots and implementations for a variety of client situations. The Consultant will also perform installations, sizing, performance tuning, customer system, hardware and integration planning architectures.
Primary Duties
- Work on medium sized engagements: gather, analyze, and document customer's business requirements and objectives, including diagramming their 'as-is' as well as their 'to-be' business processes.
- Understand and apply basic consulting methodologies to provide design support.
- Work with clients to define and recommend best design for taxonomy modeling and workflow performance.
- Support business development activities in addition to consulting.
- Assist the customer in re-engineering their 'to-be' business processes to take advantage of the new technology.

- Act as a liaison between customers and technical resources within company.
- Establish criteria concerning ability to deliver, performance, maintenance, design and costs of solution.
- Identify and respond to customer questions, issues, and service opportunities (consultative selling)
REQUIREMENTS
Skills and Knowledge
- Ability to work with clients to define and recommend best design for taxonomy modeling and workflow.
- Demonstrate solid understanding of consulting tools and methodologies.
- Ability to effectively interface with senior management, addressing changing priorities with diplomacy.
- Excellent customer service, communication and interpersonal skills are essential.
- Demonstrated delivery capabilities of collaborative knowledge, document, and/or records management projects.
- Installation and configuration knowledge of Livelink modules and other Open Text products is highly desirable; emphasis on Workflow, Forms, Tasks, Project Workspaces.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively to build relationships with other consultants, customer staff, and third party consultants.
Optional/Desirable Skills and Knowledge
- Experience supporting software infrastructure including Web Server Applications, RDBMS Applications and Operating Systems.
- Experience with Microsoft Office, Microsoft Project, Visio and other general applications.
- Experience with various sales and systems development life cycle methodologies.
Bonus Skills and Knowledge
- Experience using several of Unix/Sun Solaris/HP-UX, NT, Linux, Windows 2000/XP and other operating systems.
- Working knowledge of SQL programming and RDM Systems (Oracle and MS SQL Server are preferred).
- Experience with Visual Basic, C++, HTML, Java or other visual programming environments, familiarity with object-oriented concepts, and strong software design skill.
- Must understand MIS issues and have experience with implementing large systems through the entire software development life cycle.
- Experience working in numerous industries is an asset.
- Understanding of Records Management a plus.
Academic
Bachelors or advanced degree preferably related to Information Technology, or equivalent experience.
Clearance
Proof of ability to legally work in the United States is required.
Work Environment
General office or home office environment with regular business hours of 8:30AM to 5:30PM. However, work outside of these hours may be necessary due to project schedules, and deadlines. Carrying a phone/pager and travel is required approx 80%.
