Sr. Communication Consultant - Internal/External Communication

The position is located in Northbrook, IL

The Corporate Relations department oversees external public relations and internal communications on behalf of The Allstate Corporation. Functions in the department include communication strategy, corporate positioning and stakeholder relations, media relations, government affairs and issues management, corporate contributions, The Allstate Foundation, shareholder communications, executive support, and employee and agent communications.

The Senior Communication Consultant reports directly to the Corporate Relations Director and will serve as a key member of CEO/COO Strategic Support Team in Allstate's corporate headquarters. The successful candidate will partner with the Director and others to provide communications support to senior leadership to drive workforce alignment, help reach a broad network of stakeholders, build interactive relationships with key influencers, and increase Allstate's presence and influence in target markets.

The individual will be responsible for:

1. Helping to execute an executive positioning strategy for the CEO and/or COO with key external publics, organizations, opinion leaders, and internal audiences and helping to drive corporate/business priorities throughout the organization through a variety of communication tools, meetings, and venues.
2. Writing a variety of internal and external communications for the CEO and COO.
3. Logistics planning/project management - helping coordinate the CEO and/or COO's involvement with internal communications and external positioning opportunities. Will also assist with the planning/implementation of certain company communication meetings.
4. Communication counseling - serving as a subject matter expert and consultant for CEO and/or COO communications.
5. Creating strategic communication plans - then measuring results and adjusting strategic plans and tactical execution accordingly.
REQUIREMENTS
The skills required are:

1. Advanced - Strategic thinking / planning.
2. Advanced - Effective oral and written communication (business writing) with all internal and external stakeholders.
3. Advanced - Problem solving.

Experience Required:
PR/communications/journalism background (five+ years experience), ideally with experience in corporate and/or executive communications and project management. The ideal candidate should be a strategic thinker with a track record of producing exemplary communications. The individual should possess advanced writing skills, excellent verbal skills, and have the ability to develop and deliver strategically targeted messages, and translate business objectives into integrated communication strategies and tactics that drive business performance. This individual should have excellent project management skills. Finally, this individual must have the ability to work well with multiple and diverse audiences.

Computer Proficiency:
Microsoft Office suite of products including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Internet research capability (news monitoring, competitive program due diligence, research on potential program partners, etc.).

Education:
College Degree - Preferred
Major preference: Degree in journalism, communication or public relations
