The University of Maryland, Baltimore, Department of Academic Affairs has an exciting opportunity for a Counselor within the Counseling Center. The counselor provides counseling services to students, faculty and staff with personal, mental health, family, and school and work-related problems. Primary responsibilities of the position include evaluation and short-term treatment of individuals, families, and groups. Additional duties include participation in Counseling Center outreach and programming efforts.

This position is part-time, 20 hours a week, with a set work schedule. Primary work hours devoted to school academic calendar from August to May.

Requirements:
M.S.W. plus at least 2 years of relevant Social Work post-master’s experience.
Maryland state licensure at the LCSW-C level or eligibility for same preferred.
Experience providing psychotherapy in a short-term treatment setting preferred. Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
The preferred candidate will have knowledge and understanding of best practices in working in a university counseling center setting along with the proper application of diagnostic tools. .
Experience with cognitive behavioral treatment strategies and excellent public speaking skills strongly preferred.
Excellent communication, oral and written, interpersonal, organizational and presentation skills.
Knowledge of federal, state, and local guidelines relative to the administration of social services.
Skill in various interviewing techniques and consultative approaches.
Ability to use measurable and verifiable information for making sound decisions or judgments.
Ability to meet situations with tact, diplomacy, understanding, and fairness.
Ability to maintain confidentiality of subjects and information obtained.
Ability to work as part of a team, as well as with diverse ethnic, racial, and socio-economic backgrounds.
