Senior Technical Consultant (J2EE)

Purpose: TEKsystems is actively looking for a traveling Sr. Technical Consultant for a large software development company.

As a member of the Global Services Group, the Senior Technical Consultant plays a critical role in all Projects. In addition to being seasoned developers, they have excellent knowledge of modern software architectures and design. Their primary responsibility lies in assisting in the definition of the architecture to be used in an implementation, and to ensure the correct use of the Framework in that implementation. They will work closely with senior SI partner staff, Customer technical staff and Principal Technical Consultants, and act as a point of reference on technical matters. They will be responsible for the technical success of the component or project on which they are assigned from a Company Software perspective. They will typically be assigned to a single project at a time.

Responsibilities:

To lead the technical aspects of a small to medium scale implementation from a Company Software perspective. This can include Proofs of Concept (POCs), other smaller-scale projects, and major components of large-scale projects.
To work as part of a team with senior IS partner and/or customer staff to define components of an enterprise architecture based on the Framework, and to ensure that Software's interests are represented in this architecture at all times. To assist in the definition of a development and deployment approach to be used to realize this architecture.
To work as part of a team with Software, IS partner and/or customer staff to implement business requirements using the Framework in a timely, performance-centric and maintainable manner.
To act as a technical reference for Company-related design, development, testing and deployment knowledge.
To represent the interests of Company Software at all times in a professional and courteous manner and conduct themselves to the highest standards of professional behavior.
To establish and maintain a positive working relationship with fellow employees, Partners and Customers, and to promote the Software's technical credibility as a capable and trusted partner.
To uphold the same professional standards and work ethic expected of all our Consultancy staff and to lead by example when working with less experienced staff. To take a leadership and mentoring role when working with less experienced Software staff.

Skills and Attributes:

A minimum of five years post-graduate experience and a diploma or degree in a computer-related discipline or equivalent computer-related technical experience.
5 plus years Java Programming experience
Excellent knowledge of modern software architectures
Very knowledgeable in all aspects of IT systems development
Experienced systems designer
Experience of building and designing large scale client/server business systems.
Ability to lead technical teams where required, and to articulate customer objectives in technical terms to senior management, business users and the development team
Very familiar with at least one industry standard for software process improvement e.g. CMM, ISO 9001
Familiar with current trends in systems and tracks emerging technologies.
Aware of more than one industry standard development methodology
Very familiar with at least one each of relevant industry standard, RDBMS, TP Monitor and middleware technology.
Extensive Experience with relational databases and SQL.
Good knowledge of XML.
Experience with Unix and NT Operating systems. Very strong communication skills (both verbal and written)
Willingness to travel for short periods (up to 3 months).
Knowledge of J2EE (including HTML, JSP and EJB technologies) and component based development.
Knowledge of runtime configuration and deployment of systems on Windows and Unix platforms.
Excellent interpersonal skills and situational awareness, with the ability to tactfully represent Company Software interests in dynamic customer environments.

Skills/Attributes Highly desirable

An understanding of the core functionality, and the associated business processes, of a Social Security organization.
Knowledge of CORBA and component based development.
Knowledge of J2EE Scalability and Performance.
Knowledge of Websphere (including WSAD), WebLogic, and OTMs.

This Role will require 80-100% travel around the U.S.
